And the cop is charged with first degree murder?

One shot would have sufficed. Even a taser.

16 shots?

One shot would have sufficed.

If he went down with one shot but any responsible firearms instructor teaches STSTT (Shoot to stop the threat). It means you fire as many center mass shots as it takes in rapid succession to end the threat.

I haven't watched the video but unless he kept shooting the suspect after he was down there is no unjustifiable number of rounds.

Not knowing the case...

What was it, besides brandishing a knife and not following orders, was Loquan supposed to have done?

What precipitated the police being called?

Seems kind of harsh to unload on the guy when there were more than enough police on the scene to take him into custody without shooting him.

I suggest everyone attend their local city police policy hearings within city government to familiarize yourselves with exactly what your local department's policy is toward using deadly force!

Dead is cheaper than wounded. Most require continued firing until threat is no longer possible. ie, empty your frickin gun.

I do not agree or disagree. I merely explain that any comment on # of times shot or by how many officers is an uninformed editorial unless you know what their policies are!

No freaking way I would try to taser a guy with a knife. The effective range of a taser is not much more that 15' even with longer range cartridges. I would give it a go with bean bag rounds from a shotgun, but only with back up armed with real guns.

I want to see how they get first degree murder out of that. Is first degree still premeditated in Illinois?

16 bullet holes does not always equate to being shot 16 times. For example, a single bullet can go through an arm, through part of the torso, and through the other arm, to create what appear to be six bullet holes. More typically, an entrance and exit wound from the same bullet are thought at first glance to be from two bullets.

This being said, many police departments have “if you have to shoot, empty your gun into them” policies.
