No freaking way I would try to taser a guy with a knife. The effective range of a taser is not much more that 15' even with longer range cartridges. I would give it a go with bean bag rounds from a shotgun, but only with back up armed with real guns.
I want to see how they get first degree murder out of that. Is first degree still premeditated in Illinois?

Cop paused long enough to possibly decide to finish the guy off.
Watching the whole thing I could see how tensions mounted as the cops drove a considerable distance at high speed and risk to get there, adrenalin pumping on arrival.
