Gingrich Calls Obama’s Trayvon Martin Remarks ‘Disgraceful’
ABC ^ | 3-23-12 | Dover

Posted on 03/23/2012 5:41:30 PM PDT by VinL

President Obama’s remarks today about the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin drew scowls from GOP presidential contender New Gingrich, who called them “disgraceful” and divisive.

“What the president said in a sense is disgraceful. It’s not a question of who that young man looked like,” Gingrich said on Sean Hannity’s radio show.

President Obama today offered a personal reflection on the tragic shooting the Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, saying the incident requires all Americans to “do some soul searching.”

“When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids,” Obama told reporters....

Gingrich said on the radio show: ”Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background. Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be ok because it didn’t look like him?”

He went added that it’s “just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot. It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American. It is sad for all Americans.”

Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, said: “Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

....“I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen,” Obama said. ...But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin: If I had a son he’d look like Trayvon

Zimmerman had called police over 40 times that year complaining usually about black people in the neighborhood.

YOU ARE WRONG!! Why the spin? Since 2004, it's been 46 times and NOT about black people.

The police told him to stop following.

THAT NIGHT! And he was going back to his truck!

I don’t at ALL see Zimmerman as some hero

NO ONE IS saying he is. WOW! Where did you get that from??

FYI, he didn’t call 911....he called the police station directly.

Tough call, but it sounds like crime in the neighborhood was up and that increase in crime was driven mainly by one demographic if I’ve read the stories correctly.

Not a tough call at all. Blacks commit over 50% of all crime in the country despite being 12% of the population. The city where the incident occurred was 30% black. It wouldn't be surprising if blacks committed 9 out of 10 crimes there. Obviously not all blacks are criminals. But it is equally obvious that most criminals are black.

Then it would have been the dispatcher telling him “we don’t need you to do that” then, not don’t continue following him, or don’t follow, or stop following that is an order, just “we don’t need you to do that”. What I heard was that it was a 911 operator (a 911 call). Do you have a link to corroborate your claim that it was indeed a direct call to the police dispatcher and not 911?

"Obama can’t help insert himself into anything for political and racial exploitation.

What if the kid was white? He wouldn’t have cared, because he was not “looking like his son”?

HAS ANYONE heard of Obama’s comment about the WHITE BOY who has been set on fire by the two BLACK kids???"

I saw Obama shucking and jiving out to his podium today to comment on the Trayvon thing. IT'S NONE OF HIS DAMNED BUSINESS. It's a state issue; he needs to keep his mouth shut.

I think of that white kid who was set on fire, who's sitting in a hospital with burns, and no one cares what happened to him because his skin color doesn't make him a political victim. And then I log on to FR, and every other article is about a bunch of moronic leftwing losers putting on their hoodies and carrying Skittles in "solidarity." And I know this country is lost, because we not only tolerate such outrageousness and such stupidity, we CELEBRATE it.

Dear Mr. President,

In light of the Trayvon Martin incident, and your comments on his appearance, you asked Americans to look into their souls. So since you are the President and leader of my country, I did the patriotic thing and followed your advice.

What I found there, clearly etched on it’s very fiber was a phrase you may have heard. “All men are created equal.” And it brings to mind the man who spoke those words. Strangely, he looked more line you than he did me. And I’m good with that.

See Mr. President, I happen to believe them. I don’t much care who spoke them first or last. But I remember them best spoken by that man who looks more like you than like me. He said a few other things my pale complected self took to heart too. Things about the content of the character, not the color of the skin.

His own skin was much darker than mine, you see. And I’m OK with that too.

Mr. President, I’ll close this open letter here because to be honest, I don’t really think you believe the man who looked more like you and not like me. Because if you did, who Trayvon Martin looked like would be the furthest thing from your mind.

Regards,

Normie.

Thanks VinL.
Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be ok because it didn't look like him?
Is that a rhetorical question?

You are free to shuffle through the many documents....in one of the transcripts it is noted that Zimmerman called the Sanford Police Dept...not 911. He was advised he didn’t need to do that (follow suspect). It’s out there. Have at it.

I know where I live you can call a police station for any non-emergency and speak to a clerk....911 is for emergencies only! It seems Zimmerman understood the difference.

Your theory is so obvious that it it being played out and the public sits back and doesn’t reacte to any of it. If Obama didn’t have billions behind him in 2008 he wouldn’t have come close. The money bought the press and every union in the country save a few. The most appalling thing to me is the laws that this administration has broken and no one in congress gives a rats ass. This is the type of stuff that leads to revolutions in other countries. We sit around and think the biggest problem is who will win American Idol. The countries been put asleep with a constant barrage of nonsense.

“Zimmerman did nothing wrong. He acted in self-defense. He was wounded, wet, and his clothes were grass-stained.”

We don’t know if he did anything wrong or not. We know Zimmerman followed Trayvon. We know there was an altercation, but we don’t know who instigated it. We know Someone was yelling for help, but I haven’t heard a determination of who it was. (The voice sounded young to me, but the audio quality wasn’t great.)

“You get what you deserve, white boy’.”

Actually, although I loathe the whole concept of “hate crimes” that right there seals the deal against them. Guilty as hell.
