Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 09/06/2011 7:56:28 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

You’re on! I will now retire to deep contemplation and seek guidance from The Goddess for a proper appellation ;-)

Sounds like someone is a wee bit jealous... I used to have much more respect for Ann and her opinions than I have over the last couple years. My view of her is starting to slide into the abyss, honestly.

ANY politicians in the world, including Sarah, should be looked at critically. However, when you start denigrating a candidate based upon the propaganda put out by their adversaries instead of honest concerns and actual positions on issues you’re going to get backlash from those who see your condemnation for the swill it is.

Ann has morphed into a scawny douche bag.

I don't know about the "douche bag" bit but she definitely is scrawny, and, I would add, unbelievably unattractive. Yet one could always count on Freepers posting photos of this unfortunate woman and ooh and ahh about her looks. That always struck me as odd, very odd.

Palin does not represent the Tea Party nor is she the leader of the Tea Party. She’s a speaker at some Tea Party events.

The Tea Party is much bigger and hopefully, more long lasting than Palin, unless we wreck it by trying to narrow it down to fit into Palin’s pocket.

We actually get to choose our leaders, and I choose the most fearless, least intimidated, most confident, creative, motivated, principled leader on the scene so far; the tried-and-true proven, experienced, trench fighter. My choice is Sarah Palin, through and through.

Well said, b9! Excellently well said!

And ANOTHER thing: Coulter is among many on three sides surrounding Palin -- Democrats, Establishment and moderate Republicans of the "permanent political class," and even some of Palin's most sincere supporters -- all of whom are pressuring her to announce one way or the other, trying to manipulate her, trying to get her to do things on their timetable, on the battlefield of their choosing.

Palin is resisting that pressure. She's deflecting attempted manipulation (no matter how well-meaning in the case of her supporters). She is keeping a COOL HEAD, and it appears as if she is maintaining a course according to a timetable she's already planned, on a battlefield of HER choosing. Those qualities are EXACTLY what I want, and what American needs, in the White House.

Not sure how you find a poll to be a smear of Palin.

Not sure how you read that from any of my comments, but ok, I'll play along. Let me show you how it's done:

"Polls have shown that something like 65 to 75 percent of Freepers wish that gogogodzilla would stay off the site. Personally, I think he ought to either get a clue and quit posting, or say something meaningful for a change. Not only that, his buddies are a real embarrassment with the way they attack anyone who dares to offer the slightest criticism of him."

What? I didn't smear you. I only cited the results of a poll.

Oh, they're definitely that literal. Ever watch a leftie laugh out loud at something juvenile or gross, then turn around and totally miss a real joke?

They're mental, brother. We may just have to erect some pillars to them, and show them some love. Perhaps they'll think that's funny ;-)

You are absolutely correct IMO. But also bear in mind that the MSM and the opposition want to MAKE it a case that the TEA Party lives and dies by Palin so that if she doesn’t run, they can say that the Tea Pary died, no one likes it and it doesn’t matter.

Which is the polar opposite of truth.

I’m very much in touch with FR, and I am shocked and dismayed anyway.

Thank you for your great concern. Just try not to be too shocked and dismayed when Palin sweeps the primary.

See ya.

“I am so tired of this jealous stuff.”

So am I. Too bad Ann, Laura, etc., can’t handle another woman’s celebrity. Women are notorious for attacking other women when jealousy enters the picture.

Bringing in Romney’s and Perry’s hair into this particular conversation isn’t even pertinent. So childish.

What I did say is

No. That is not what you said. You told me that he had signed a contract and there were nude scenes and you couldn't say anymore.

Oh, I forgot. Yoy were a boob then too. I never wrote that Stephen signed to do a nudie film (prove me wromg and I'll quit FR forever).

Post 36

What are you talking about? He worked more in 2005 than in 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001. He has three projects lined up for 2006 and he is constantly looking for more.

A project crossed my desk this past summer that had him attached (a letter of commitment) along with Snoop Dogg (a pornographer himself). It was a NC-17 edging to X rated project looking for funding. The story was about pimps, dealers and a dirty cop. I refused to help it find funding.

Post 81

And no, Stephen did not turn me down on a part offer, I never offered him a part. What I did do was decide not to try to find money for the soft-X film that he attached his name to.

I don't recall Governor Sarah Palin ever claiming to be the "leader" or even a "leader" of the Tea Party movement. If you can link to such a quote, I'd appreciate it. And what exactly do you mean by "more long lasting than Palin?" A non-declared private citizen running a strong third in almost every major poll doesn't sound like someone who is fading away, or do you disagree? http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_nomination-1452.html
