Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

I agree about Christie. He’s fine as NJ governor, but as President would be completely untrustworthy on a whole host of issues, especially the Second Amendment and judges.

But while I grant you that Palin is solid on the Second Amendment, what makes you think Palin would be any good on immigration? And of course immigration encompasses the Muslim issue, because if not for our absurd legal immigration policies, we would not have to worry about Muslim trouble within our own borders.

Palin can be given some relief for past positions since she was the running mate of pro-amnesty John McCain. And she gets points for supporting the Arizona law. But has she articulated a well-thought out position on immigration overall? What does she think about extended family chain migration? What does she think about the ridiculous Diversity Visa program? What does she think about Refugee and Asylum policies? What does she think about Attrition through Enforcement to deal with the illegal population?

To be fair, all of the Republican frontrunners are worthless on these fronts. Fred Thompson is the only candidate I can remember with a decent plan on immigration, but of course his campaign went nowhere last time. So I won’t be harder on Palin than the others, but why exactly do so many conservatives think she would be good on immigration?

Ann has morphed into a scawny douche bag. She is so far removed from the real middle class folks who make this country run. I used to like her but now I wouldn’t spit on her if she was on fire....

Coulter said if Christie were to stay out of the race, she may support Mitt Romney.

Maybe Ann is simply jealous b/c Sarah has Todd, and she’s happily married with kids, who knows?

Ann Coulter is another Ivy League elitist. She turns the big 5-0 in December.

She looks at Sarah Palin and all Sarah has accomplished personally and professionally and Ann realizes what she has missed out on. Imagine being married to Coulter and how quickly her shtick would start wearing on you.

Look at the men in her life: Bill Maher, leftist Andrew Stein and Bob Guccione, Jr. Levi Johnston might actually be a step up.

Ann experimented with men and didn’t like it.

Remember her Muslim boy friend?

“I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans...”

Exactly. Palin HAS fans...and Ann Coulter is finding it harder to fill seats and sell books, her blonde shocktress performances have gone the way of Gallagher’s watermelon act...everybody’s seen it.

Jan is having a fit because everything is “Marcia Marcia Marcia!”

It’s interesting to watch the similarity in what is happening to the mainstream media, with the similarity of what is happening to support for RINOs.

They’re both, in a long-term stubborn trajectory to paint themselves into a corner.

Over the years I have followed Ann’s rise to prominence as a vanguard for conservative values. I have purchase all of her books and enjoyed them for their vitriolic language and her constant espousing of American values.

However, over the last year, I have become conscience of a turn toward the moderate by our dear Ann. Mayhap it is just me, but there it is.

It would seem her vitriol is now aimed toward those less moderate, those more inclined to challenge the status quo. Mayhap she is moderating?

It is a flat out LIE that there are Palin “worshippers” in ANY sense here. Those who love her do not bow down to her or pretend she is anything other than a supremely skillful politician with enormous personal appeal. She is unique but no deity.

So, Ann is a conservative? Who knew? Anyone licking Chris Christie’s boots is NO conservative in my book.
