Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

The Book of Zot! tells us this is so Brother, for surely as the sun seek rest from the day’s labors, so too do trolls seek the cleansing power of lightning.

And I, your humble scribe, will chronicle their unfortunate passing for the greater glory of the goddess. My penance for having been born...human ;)

I agree completely. Look at the same regurgitated crap. Every time I see the “She quit” meme or the “TM” that our friend likes to post I just shake my head. Adds nothing, just a way for them to harp on disproven or things ‘addressed repeatedly’.

Ego? Perhaps, but in the Paris Hilton sense...even bad publicity is good. The fact that most on FR see that type as total idiots or disruptors at best doesn’t seem to phase them. It’s the anonymous thing. Holding a screen nake to account is no big deal. Personally I’d love to see a “real names only” policy here. THAT would quickly end the BS. But it would unfortunately cause many good people to leave as well. But it sure would make IDing the Operatives easy ;)

Real names only would also leaves posters open to attacks by lefty’s. I’ve seen too much rabid garbage for that to be a possibility. And those posters epitomize why. ;-)

I have personal experience with that and the Animal Liberation Front from my prior career. They do indeed get quite personal in calling publicly for ‘unfortunate accidents’ and spamming addresses across the net.

In my case though, They spammed the wrong address ;)

Not sure how you find a poll to be a smear of Palin.

As for the Obama quote, his followers considered him almost a Messiah. And that’s the analogue she’s drawing on. Which is a smear against her followers.

I don't believe that I have ever seen them accused of being at the genius level. :-)

Holy fricking Moly! I scanned through the responses to this and I am flat-out amazed!

I have to say up front for a long while I was adamantly pro-Sarah and was just itching to be able to contribute to her candidacy where I would be ASSURED she was a valid, declared candidate - this has been nigh on a year! No such thing....yet. All I see now are “3, 5, 10 Signs Sarah is Running!” with some disjointed convoluted drunken interpretation of a couple three words in some speech she ‘just made’ (while not declaring her candidacy)....

I also see people here, who a year ago were chastizing other people issuing threads without the requisite “Ann” PICS...my oh my, how times have changed.. she’s a slut now, she’s a lesbian, she’s a communist, Romney lover, Christie Lover, Devil worshipper, even a Dyke (wow, just WOW!).....

I like Sarah as much as the rest, but for cripes sake, some of you people need to get a grip on reality. Your hate and angst over Obama has taken over your senses.... Our business is about getting rid of this Despot, period. It isn’t about creating another Virgin Mary - one is enough.... rant-off.

It was hilarious!

Short version: An old usenet/Talk.Environment flamewar with these idiots went ‘real’ and they tracked me down from my info at off-road.com where I worked at the time) and “ID’d” me (not that I made any secret of it posting my name to begin with ;)

They then followed me around at an off-road event, shot a bunch of pix, made up ‘wanted posters’ and spammed them across the net and in real life areas with photo, name and address.

Except they used my former Boss’s address and he lived in Hawaii ;) Gee, no one ever found me.

I got MONTHS worth of columns and articles outta that and even had the Sierra Club call us some time later and tell us (along with other issues involved) to stop our ‘harassment’ of them ...gee, I thought they weren’t associated with enviro radicals?

I’ve really got to start saving your readings from the Book of Zot, Norm. They’re hilarious, and real keepers!

Sadly Brother, The Book of Zot! teaches us that for a time, the chosen will endure great trials and some amongst us shall fall. It is my most sacred duty as Chief Druid to bear witness. The goddess commands it!

Plus it keeps my writing skills up ;)

There were a few things with Sierra involved and they threatened to sue us. But we had some good lawyers and real money behind us then too. I had the pleasure of telling the SC Legal Defense Fund stooge “Go F*** yourself” personally. One of my fondest memories .

As for the ALF, they are every bit the stoned hippies they are portrayed to be. BTW, Sierra never did sue us ;)

I rather figured that the description of ALF was accurate.

I really ought to join you in adding chapters to the book. Creative writing has always been one of my favorite pastimes, and I was pretty good at it when I practiced it often.

Plus, I can’t let you have all the fun, now can I? ;-)

Brother, It is a burden I will gladly share, for the responsibility of the Book of Zot! is far too big for one mere man to handle ;)
