Mike Huckabee, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012 says the effort to allow gays and lesbians to marry is comparable to legalizing incest, polygamy and drug use...
Huckabee told the interviewer that not every group's interests deserve to be accomodated if their lifestyle is outside what he called "the ideal."...
"There are some people who believe in incest, so we should accomodate them. There are people who believe in polygamy, should we accomodate them?" he said.

You know, I really can’t stand Huckabee. But when he’s right, he’s right. Props to him for standing up and speaking out.
LOL. I share your sentiment. Trouble is, he doesn’t speak his mind on his television show.
While conservatives all agree on this, I can easily see how the pro-drug Libertarians would be spitting mad over this.
Actually, I had a bit of a problem with that comparison. I think that by comparing gay marriage to drug use he is falling into the same trap a lot of other people do...treating gay marriage as a right to action rather than the positive right it is. The banning of drugs is a ban on certain private behaviors, but the ban on gay marriage is not. Gays can already live together and do whatever they want with each other. A right to gay marriage would require that others recognize them as a married couple, whether they believe in gay marriage or not. This is what makes gay marriage a positive right rather than a traditional individual right. Failure to recognize this (or recognizing it and putting positive rights on the same level as rights to action) is probably my biggest problem with the advocates of gay marriage. So it was a little disheartening to see an opponent of gay marriage make the same mistake.
You totally lost me.
I have no idea where you are coming from with these two terms: ‘Positive rights’ and ‘Right to action’.
I like to stay informed so I went googling. I see these are Libertarian terms.
In case you haven’t noticed; I find Libertarian viewpoints liberal, morally deficient and contemptable.
So when I read that you belive that gay marriage is a positive right, then I really, really wonder how you libs manage to stay on board here on this conservative site.
It looks like I really did lose you.
A positive right is a right that imposes an obligation on someone else. For instance, if there is a right to health care it means that someone else is obligated to provide you health care.
I believe that gay marriage is a positive right because it would obligate others (for instance, employers who offer spousal benefits) to recognize the union as a marriage.
I think maybe I didn’t make it clear that I don’t believe in positive rights. When I say that gay marriage is a positive right, that means I’m against it.
I think we’re on the same side of this issue.
As the Rev James David Manning said “Obama and Larry Sinclair had a steamy love affair.”

~sigh~
Once again I jumped to wrong conclusions.
Very sorry.
I can read up on that — you can read up on Mormon aggression.
there was no aggression.
Never heard of the Mormon wars?
They had had lots of wars with their neighbors...
They didn’t start the skirmishes. And, what is usually known as the “Mormon War” in Utah wasn’t a war at all. The US sent an army to Utah to put down a non-existent rebellion. When the army got to Utah, they marched through Salt Lake without firing a shot. The Mormons had left the city, had filled the buildings full of straw, and had left men with torches on every corner ready to set fire to the city rather than have everything they had built stolen from them again, as it had been in Missouri and Illinois.
The army marched through, set up a camp about 60 miles south and west of Salt Lake, and the Mormons did quite well trading with the military for the next while.
Who started what is debatable.
It seems that cults like mormons and mohamedans often suffer from a persecution complex...as is the case with the Mohamedans still. One outcome of that is aggression. We will have to agree to disagree.
Hopefully the Mormons have gotten over it-—with the outlawing of polygamy.
Maybe you know-Have they outlawed polygamy?-—I get conflicting messages from them
It is not debatable. The Mormons settled frontier areas in large numbers, and,by force of numbers, were a substantial voting bloc sufficient to unseat the powers that be. In Missouri, that issue was amplified by the fact that the Mormons were anti-slavery, and the surrounding areas were pro-slavery.
The Missouri “war” started in Gallatin, when the Mormons showed up to vote, and were met by a mob intent on stopping them. Of the 23 people killed in the Missouri “war,” 18 were Mormons massacred at a little settlement called Haun’s Mill, by a mob on horseback who rode in and began shooting people who were just going about their business. Some “war.”
People used the “cult” argument to whip up hatred and resentment and to justify what were really political fears of losing power. If knowing that early Mormons’ property was repeatedly stolen, that families were forced out of their homes in the dead of winter, people murdered, women raped, homes burned, and that they were not afforded basic constitutional rights is evidence of a “persecution complex,” then so be it.
Anyone practicing polygamy today is excommunicated from the Mormon church.
But, there is no evidence of any link between alleged ‘aggression’ and the former practice of polygamy. Before the Mormons came to Utah, only a handful of people were practicing polygamy, and it was not generally known. And, after they came to Utah and were open about it, only a tiny percentage did so.
In Missouri, that issue was amplified by the fact that the Mormons were anti-slavery, and the surrounding areas were pro-slavery.

Ah the mormons OWNED slaves in Utah...
They took them there themselves...
One slave, named Green Flakes, drove Briggy Young’s carriage...
One couple had slaves and when the man died his wife “gave” one of her slaves to the tithing yard...
Briggy Young accepted the slave as a tithe too...
AND DID NOT FREE HIM..
The mormons have been racist bigots from the first...
They have religious scriptures agains the black race...
In 180 years no black man has ever been in leadership in the mormon corporation..
As usual, what you have said is untrue. Green Flake was freed. He became a farmer and a miner and was an active member of the Mormon church until he died at the age of 75. And, there are black men in leadership positions, and have been since the 1970’s.
My black daughter in law would argue with your statement about bigotry.
There were no wars attached to Mormon polygamy. It was quite practical for the 50 years or so it was practiced. There were more female converts than male. The Mormon population was isolated in Utah. It was a convenient way to provide security for unattached females.

Onloy the wars the mormons started themselves over polygamy...
Practical ??? Polygamy is disgusting, foul, abominable and unBiblical.....
Read D&C 132...
Joey Smith “restored” ancient barbarism but Briggy Young perfected it.
Plus it is an “everlasting covenant” for the mormons...
Polygamy was just a sex club for mormon males...
It was worse than pornography and degrading to women...
Plus it was illegal ...it was bigamy..
It was sex abuse on a extremely large scale..
“the principles of celestial marriage
That by it alone can the iniquity of the world be eradicated, and women exalted in heaven? Do you not know that polygamy is to purify the world, and give birth to a holy race, worthy to receive Christ?”
“Love! we leave that to the Gentiles. Saints marry from principle: women to get to heaven, and men to amuse themselves”
There were many more men in Utah than there were women...
There were more than enough men for the women to pick and choose their own husbands...
But they were noyt allowed to legally marry the young men...
They were threatened into being the concubines of perverted old guys..
The mormon population was not isolated...
and if that was going to be such a problem why did Briggy Young take them that far ???
They were fine in nauvoo...
after Joey Smith got himself killed in that shoot out, the mormons remained in Nauvoo for the next TWO YEARS and unmolested...
In Utah, they were in an armed camp, a concentration camp ruled over buy a sensual greedy despot, the theocratic distator and “king” Briggy Young...
Nobody got to leave or enter “his” territory without his permission...
He murdered those who tried to leave,,,
There were no females needing to be the “extra” sex partner to any mormon males for “security...
What was wrong with allowing any unattached to find themselves a husband of their own amongst the thousands of unattached males ???
Or just providing for the unattached females out of the “church” coffers...
Just the cost of one dress of one of Briggy Youngs “favorite” concubine in his harem would have goiven “security to some unattached females for years..
Green Flake was freed but not until a long time after...
I make this argument all the time. It drives the gays apoplectic because there is no effective rebuttal for it except to say, “You are mean.”
How many black men or black womenhave been the prophet/president of the mormon corporation ???
How many How many black men or black women have been in the first presidency of the mormon corporation ???
How many black men or black women have been in the quorum of 12 of the mormon corporation ???
How many black men or black women have been one of the 70 of the mormon corporation ???
How many black men or black women have been an elder of the mormon corporation ???
How many black men or black women have been a stake president over a white stake of the mormon corporation ???
How many black men or black women have been a ward president over a white ward of the mormon corporation ???
How many black men or black women have been the mission president over whoite mormon missionaries in the US or a white firsat world country of the mormon corporation ???
Any ???
and dont let’s embarrass you with the history of the mormons FINALLY going to Africa..
20 years after they were first invited....
My black daughter in law would argue with your statement about bigotry
