As I understand it, stores are only allowed a certain number of sales per year on Mountain House Cans. These prices are about as good as one will ever find.....north of 40% off.

I assume you mean by force from someone who took the time and trouble to prepare. Not acceptable.
If you mean from the Marxist's warehouse, on the other hand, acceptable.
What's that days without water as opposed to days without food ratio again?
“This is what I love about FR. Reading the title of this thread, I was clueless. By post 7, I had a new hobby.”
LOL. My only difference with you is that I seem to get an ever expanding to-do list.
Just a couple of days without water will be the end of you.
You can go a couple of weeks without food, if you don’t have some other health condition.
The big deal is the filters.
For instance, the filters for a “Big Berkey” make up almost ALL of the price of the system. IOW, if you just bought the filters and rolled your own around them, you’d pay about the same price as the whole system, probably more, considering time and materials.
Thanks very much.
Yes, we certainly should remain honest with each other.
On the other hand, since it will be the Marxist/Fascist government that is the CAUSE of the SHTF, they are fair game.
It’s not paranoid to be prepared.
You’ve seen first hand what happens when the trucks don’t run.
Just buy canned goods at the grocery store.
Back in the day a friend and I canned everything, I had hundreds of home canned veggies but I didn’t like them, I must like that processed flavor, I stuck them in a storeroom with no climate control so it was hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
About 15 years later I was finally cleaning out the poor shed and my MIL came over with her sister. They wanted it all! I told them how old it was but they still took it and over a few years ate it all and no harm ever came to them.
There never used to be expiration dates on cans, if they are canned correctly you can eat them for many, many years. In WWII in the Pacific our troops ate WWI K rations. Anasazi beans were originally grown from prehistoric beans found in cliff dwellings.
If you are serious about it find a Mormon cannery and put your pasta in cans with oxygen absorbers, I’ve only been charged the price of the materials in the past.
Certainly, with proper filtration/purification. You could even use “surface water” (ie, ponds & streams) if you prefilter it through a cloth then run it through a gravity filtration system.
Don’t waste filtered water flushing the toilet, though.
These are great to have on hand during a power outage, an evacuation or a camping/hiking trip. If you price it per serving, they really aren’t expensive. The Chicken & Rice comes to a little over $2/serving.
ping...for later
Yeah but if you try to get them from someone like me...I will just end up with more guns and ammmo :)
The Mrs and I are interested in beginning in canning. Where is a good source for reliable, airtight, mason jars and very roubust/reliable pressure cookers?
If you can swing it, every prepper should have a few .22 Ruger 10/22s and 77/22s with a screw on suppressor. Great for LP/OP, sentry duty, and taking out 2 and 4 legged varmints without drawing much attention.
Ask your local Mormon... seriously.
But, from what I’ve gathered from this source, they are going less and less with the canning of food,
and more and more to the buying of the freeze dried stuff
as mentioned in this article.
BTW, your easiest source of good quality mason jars and canning equipment is as close as your Walmart.
WalMart
