here ya...a nice Mormon lady got me a bunch of those oxygen absorbers plus a sheet about canning and said that I could come out and do it, that they would not turn anyone away...

Thanks! She’s wonderful. We’ll be celebrating some 15 years together later this month. Time flies....

I went to the link, this stuff is NOT for me. Corn products AND flavor enhancers.

You can buy freeze dried vegetables and fruits without the enhancers & fillers. I've purchased broccoli, green beans, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, blackberries, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, etc. I've also learned to work my food dehydrator and purchase fruits & vegetables when they are on sale and dehydrate them and store them in FoodSaver bags. Note that the dehydrated items that I am making are for short to mid-term storage while the freeze dried items I purchase are for long term storage.

Well thanks for knowing I’m a N00bie. I actually not affiliated with the ready store but I’ll take that as a complement. ;)

I just like Freeze-Dried for the conveniences factor, call me an American who likes to have the convenience of adding hot water to my food & not have to bake up a storm in the case of an emergency. As for the 25% that is lost in the dehydrated process I personally would like to trade that 25% into something that is more convent and easy for my kids to cook up.

Well thank you for the info regarding AIO, I might just have to buy some of their stuff to add to my food storage. I just have used The Ready Store for my supplies and it easy to assume I’m with the ready store lol I just like to think of my self as an expert at getting ready for any & all emergency’s.

Please feel free to reply :) I don’t mind having a friend to chat/debate with :D

get the commercial folded-square toilet paper instead of the soft stuff that takes up lots of storage space. Fill the space saved with non-perishable foods, first aid supplies, or barter items.

For the additional cost, I don’t think it’s worth it.....would much rather put that money into freeze dried foods.

Thanks for helping me think this thing through. I do like your idea of bringing light food items like MRE’s rather than canned goods or things that needed to be prepared. I also found looking at the already packed earthquake bags as templates helpful. I just hope everything will fit. My husband will have a fit if I bring all my preps, fearing I might need a trailer, so this will restrain me. I already have the filter you recommend. What a nice coincidence! And since we will be crossing the desert, lots of water will be stored in the car and stacked at the rental. I try always to be ready for an emergency. I love my little family so much to let us be parted.

Redhead, my husband says I suffer from “endofrollitist”, i.e. fear of running out of t.p. Tell me, where do you find commercial folded-square toilet paper that saves space? I remember that was the kind we had in school. A quick search came out nada. This is a great idea.

I’m surprised how often I hear that line, Red. “I have a gun and ammo. That’s all the preparedness I need.” How idiotic. Do people like that really think the rest of us are just going to sit there and let them kill us and our families and then steal everything we’ve worked hard to store and grow??? If so, they haven’t met my husband.

Then again the poster may have just been thinking about hunting for their food rather than stockpiling.

Try Sams or Costco. Otherwise, maybe you’ll have to order it online.

That is exactly what they meant, although you can’t bag a pound of sugar, a case of pasta, or a can of baked beans with your 30-30.

I have hunted and fished all my life. the things I am putting away are the things that: A) I will need to provide the energy I need to hunt, and; B) I cannot grow or harvest from the land.
