Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.
The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.
The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.
The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.
The perps very well might be black which seems to put everyone in PC mode. Maybe H. Rap Brown’s ex-con posse on the rampage? Some were taken down last week.
My bet is that Sheppard Smith has probably never been on a military base or even seen a gun in real life.
Prayers for all members of our military on every base in this country. I think (though I don't know for a fact), that they automatically go on alert when something like this happens.
Get out the waterboards and interrogate the two shooters in custody. No time to be wasted.
FNC: Fort Hood officials to hold press conference in about 15-20 minutes.
ABC’s Chris Cuomo (obviously reaching on this I think)
speculating the base is located in a violent area of many
gangs ... and they get involved with the military.
All the access routes to/from Fort Hood shut down.
Cuomo says from everything he’s hearing, they don’t
believe this is over. One soldier told him they’re
still hearing shots. Seems to be phases to this
shooting .. hearing small arms fire, whether from
the suspect or the defenders.
Allegedly 40 yr old male captured. At least one
or two other shooters barricaded near the Readiness
Center.
Killeen Police Swat team is on the premises.
Situation is very fluid.
Saw a thread with the subject line to the effect that security was put on notice to be on guard for reprisals.
The Koresh seige made much more news than the Dearboristan raid and shooting. Too much goes under the radar from the Pravda Media.
From Drudge:
2 SUSPECTS CAUGHT...
4 SWAT OFFICERS INJURED...
No links yet.
“I have to show my military ID to get on base and who ever is with me doesn’t have too.”
Same here...in addition to a sticker on the automobile.
Once on base, I even have to show my ID when making a purchase at the commissary or BX!
McClatchy: Gunmen with M-16s kill at least 7 at Fort Hood in Texas
Um, there doesn't appear to be a source on the M-16s. That means they could be AR-15s. Also, based on the media's record on firearm identification they wouldn't know a Red Ryder from a Barrett.
Some good news: KCEN is reporting that Ft. Hood emergency sirens have ceased.
And he must have pictures. Probably home movies.
NBC reports that the suspect in custody is in his 20s.
At this point all those involved are believed to be military personnel, ABC reports. It says there are conflicting reports about whether there is a third shooter.
A soldier stationed at Fort Hood told the BBC: “We’re on lockdown. I heard the emergency announcement over the speakers outside and saw people rushing to get indoors.
“In our office we’re okay but we’re hearing about the deaths. It’s horrible and very shocking.”
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, talking on CNN, said she had spoken to one of the generals at Fort Hood minutes ago, and he had suggested 30 people were wounded.
I don’t disagree, but I do think we need to be somewhat guarded until we actually know what took place here, not that you implied otherwise.
Look, I think we were lucky under Bush/Cheney. If this is an attack by a terrorist, nothing really changed to make it more possible after Bush/Cheney stepped down.
I’ll grant you the thought that the punishment might be more “gamed” at this point is a valid point for discussion though.
“Hes got this finger teepee deployed, and hes wearing a really serene look on this face, and that means hes super smart, and stuff.”
And he’s very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very concerned.
Cavuto said they are not that close to each other. Its a huge base.
Ft. Dix Six. Captured and imprisoned.
MSM whining that they hadn’t actually done anything!
Someone on CNN brought this up, but of course, it was immediately discounted. That makes me convinced it’s a similar attack.
When some one is shooting at you ... first thought “I must get to the closest armory” ...??????? It is like you on the street and you are being shot at ... and DAMN my weapon is down the block in my vehicle!
At worst, it might be considered a "man-caused disaster."
Not being there, and having no information beyond what you have ... I would say that this would be a 'Standard Operationg Proceedure' in case of an attack on base for any reason. Rather safe, than sorry; right?
