After a lifetime of public service and a painful illness, Jack Kemp has died.
Our prayers are with his family.
What a shock! Rest in peace. Prayers up.
RIP Congressman... When we lose a straight shooter, we must pause and reflect....
Horrible news...RIP to a GREAT GREAT man
Jack Kemp would have made a better POTUS than any of the last 4 clowns we’ve had!
A good man. Years ago Jack Kemp was speaking in Portland, OR. On meeting him, I gave him a note with a question. He asked for my address, answered it on the plane back to Washington. I received his answer a few days later. Prayers going up for his great spirit.
May God bless his grieving family. What a shame.
I played HS football with Jeff Kemp and his Dad was needless to say a hero to us all. He had a profound effect on all of us. We had known he ill for quite some time, but I guess none of us want to believe it.
Oh, duh! All I could think of was Olympia Snowe and I thought she was still alive, and I didn’t think they would be partying anyway! Yeah, I think you’re right, they’re likely having a nice conversation.
Actually, a Buffalo Bill. {8^D))
He was directly responsible for restoring the reputation of Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge. It was a good sign when Reagan put Coolidge’s portrait up in the Cabinet Room, and a sign certain impending disaster when G.H.W. Bush took it down.
Kemp was, of course, the author of Kemp-Roth, a 30% across-the-board tax rate cut. It should have been enacted whole in 1981. Instead, it was reduced to three stages by the evil Tip O’Neill and his minions. The delay in the rate reductions helped deepen and prolong the recession through 1982, helping the Democrats enormously at the polls. When the final rate cut kicked in in 1983, the economy took off. The tax reform of 1986 accomplished a dream that had seemed impossible in 1980—a 28% top rate, almost immediately undone by G.H.W. Bush.
Jack Kemp is directly responsible for the economic growth of the last 25 years. If not for wicked, stupid people in Washington, and the wicked, stupid people who vote for them, much more could have been accomplished—in particular, the restoration of real money.
Sorry you have such harsh feelings. Go look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself to go to hell.
R.I.P.
How different things would have turned out if Jack could have wrested the nomination from George H.W. Bush back in 1988.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jack Kemp.
Jack Kemp was the driving force (Kemp/Roth tax cuts) behind the Reagan taxcuts which spurred almost 26 years of uninterrupted economic growth. Thank you Jack, for a job well done. Rest in peace, my friend.
God bless you Jack!
He was really one of the good ones. I enjoyed seeing him take on the libs on the talk shows. He understood economics. We could sure use more guys like him today.
Well, I think Clinton still wins in 92 if the economy goes south, but who knows. But Kemp would have been able to prevent a Perot run because he wouldn’t have raised taxes and been more conservative.
Ironically, also, in 88 Kemp could well have chosen Dole as his VP after beating him in the primaries as a greybeard to match up against Bentsen. Or, maybe he would have gone with new Senator and war hero John McCain from Arizona.
It’s interesting to think about.
But Regan selecting Bush really shaped the future of the party and conservatism in ways I’m sure he never really considered. Not that I blame him. No one imagines how their VP pick will affect things 20 years down the road or that their son will end up running. But that really did have a huge influence on the future.
Very sad news. Prayers for the family
