Al-Qaeda Draws New Recruits Via Internet

Al-Qaeda is using the Internet to recruit vulnerable young people to its terrorist network, according to a programme aired on Saudi Arabian TV late on Tuesday.

Umm Osama, the founder of al-Qaeda's first women-only website, al-Khansa, joined several others on the programme to discuss how they renounced jihadist ideology.

Among those who sought a response to this question was an imam from the Medina mosque, Saleh Ibn Awad al-Mudamsi, and the father of a young al-Qaeda suspect held in an Iraqi prison. Read More

“Air passengers’ mid-flight terror as hole appears in fuselage”

(AFP)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Passengers have described their terror as the plane on which they were travelling was forced to make an emergency landing after a door “popped” midflight, leaving a hole in the side of the fuselage.

Qantas flight QF30, with 300 passengers and crew on board plunged 20,000 feet after the faulty door “popped”, causing an “explosive” depressurisation. The Boeing 747, flying from London to Melbourne had just taken off from a stop-over in Hong Kong when the incident happened. As the plane dropped from 30,000 feet to 10,000 feet, oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling.

Debra Manchester, a passenger in First Class, said there was a “huge bang” and a “massive rush of wind,” with debris swirling around the cabin. Mrs Manchester, a housewife from Buckinghamshire, said there was an atmosphere of chaos as passengers struggled to put their oxygen masks on.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Brendan McClements, an Australian businessman, said that when the passengers disembarked, they could see a large hole in the side of the plane on the “driver’s side” - or right hand side of the fuselage. “We could see it from where we were standing and you could see straight through into the hold of the plane,” he said. Mrs Manchester added that luggage was “hanging out” of the hole where the hold had been, and that the emergency door above appeared to have come loose.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “”The pilot said to us: “Look, we don’t really know what happened. There is a hole in the side of the plane and the cabin depressurised so we had to come down.”

Mrs Manchester claimed that 20 minutes after the plane first took off from Heathrow, she heard a loud bang near the faulty door. “You have to wonder if that explosion could have caused the second one,” she said.”

Four days, two loaded guns at Raleigh-Durham International
News & Happenings
May 30, 2008

Transportation Security Officers discovered two loaded guns during the Memorial Day holiday weekend at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).

Transportation Security Officer Jay Helm was operating an X-ray machine on May 23 when he spotted a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun loaded with eight rounds in a passenger’s carry-on bag. Three days later, TSO Patrick Barry was at the X-ray when he identified a .22 magnum loaded with five rounds in a passenger’s carry-on.

Both passengers were arrested and cited for carrying a concealed weapon.

“These discoveries illustrate once again why our officers must always be on alert,” said Michael Zunk, TSA federal security director for Raleigh-Durham.

Helm has been with TSA for more than four years, while Barry has nearly two years experience as a TSO.

“IDF vets train NY Jewish paramilitaries”
By HAVIV RETTIG

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “American Jews have “felt a false sense of security in the United States,” Stern believes, “because historically there has been less anti-Semitism than in other countries. But there have been incidents - neo-Nazi terrorist attacks, Arab terrorist attacks. Jews have to be vigilant.”

“The threat is not from the American people or government,” he adds, but from “terrorist sleeper cells that want to target Jews. These people are very dangerous and the FBI issues warnings against them very often,” he said, citing the FBI’s warning, after the killing of Hizbullah operations chief Imad Mughniyeh in Damascus in February, that the Lebanese group might carry out terror attacks on Jewish communities.

“The average American is friendly to Jews, but we’re worried about those individuals on the periphery of society,” Stern says.

The group was founded in the summer of 2006 in response to the shooting attack at the Jewish federation of Seattle premises by local Muslim Naveed Haq.

“We realized there is a need for this kind of organization, and as Israeli combat veterans living in the US, we have the skills and ability to respond to this,” Stern says.”

Russia Could Place Bombers In Latin America, N.Africa - Paper
RIA Novosti ^ | July 24, 2008
Posted on July 24, 2008 11:02:33 PM PDT by Fennie

MOSCOW - Russian strategic bombers may soon be deployed at airbases in Cuba, Venezuela and Algeria as a response to the U.S. missile shield in Europe and NATO’s expansion, Russian daily Izvestia said on Thursday.

Moscow has strongly opposed the possible deployment by the U.S. of 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and an accompanying tracking radar in the Czech RFepublic as a treat to its national security. Washington says the defenses are needed to deter a possible strike from Iran, or other “rogue” states...
