:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

The UN insignia emerges as a global target for AQ attacks

The suicide bombings that ripped apart the U.N. headquarters building in Algiers on Dec. 11 and killed at least 37 people, including 17 U.N. employees, provided a bloody demonstration of the United Nations' emergence as a key target in al-Qaeda's global war against the West.

Allah is only for Muslims Malaysian official says

A senior government official in Malaysia has ordered a Catholic newspaper to drop the use of the word “Allah” in its Malay language section if it wants its publishing permit renewed, the Associated Press reports.

The Herald, published by Malaysia’s Catholic Church, has translated the word God as “Allah.” Che Din Yusoff, a senior official at the Internal Security Ministry’s publications control unit, has said this usage is erroneous because “Allah” refers to the Muslim God.

"Christians cannot use the word Allah. It is only applicable to Muslims. Allah is only for the Muslim god. This is a design to confuse the Muslim people," Che Din told the Associated Press.

Thank you MamaDearest.

In my opinion, jihadis look for soft targets and it seems that they think the UN is a soft target.

from your post MamaDearest:

SNIPPET: “”Christians cannot use the word Allah. It is only applicable to Muslims. Allah is only for the Muslim god. This is a design to confuse the Muslim people,” Che Din told the Associated Press.”

OPINION:

I agree with Mr. Din that allah is the god of Muslims.

I disagree with Mr. Din that “Christians cannot use the word Allah.”
Allah can and should be used (by Christians and others) when citing the Quran or referring to whom Muslims worship.

It should be noted that Christians and Jews worship God.

“Turkey: Christians celebrate low-key Christmas after recent attack”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Istanbul, 24 Dec. (AKI) - Turkey’s 100,000-strong Christian community was on Monday hoping that Christmas this year would pass uneventfully without further sectarian attacks such as that earlier this month against an Italian Catholic priest - the latest of several in little over a year. “

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “He described the government’s moves to remove the current ban on wearing the Muslim headscarf in state offices and universities as a positive step. “I believe a law of this kind, drafted by moderate Islamists, should on balance be seen in a positive light by Christians,” Padovese said.

“I would like these steps towards dialogue and tolerance to rapidly pick up speed, but I understand that Turkey is a country that does not have just one soul, but many,” he concluded.

Muslims form 99.08 percent (mostly Sunni), and Christians and Jews the remaining 0.2 percent. “

Press Release A071225a
December 25, 2007

Coalition forces target terrorist facilitators, suicide bombers; 13 killed, 27 detained

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces killed 13 terrorists and detained 27 suspects Monday and today during operations targeting al-Qaeda in central and northern Iraq.

During a series of operations south of Samarra Monday and today, Coalition forces targeted an alleged senior level foreign terrorist facilitator for al-Qaeda in Iraq. The targeted individual is also believed to be responsible for the facilitation of weapons and finances and involved in suicide-bombing operations, some of which include female operatives.

Acting on intelligence reports, Coalition forces targeted a location where the individual was believed to be operating and called supporting aircraft to engage. Four individuals emerged from the target area and attempted to evade capture. As Coalition forces approached one of the individuals, the suspect detonated a suicide vest, killing himself. The ground force then located two of the suspects hiding in a wooded area. Coalition forces engaged and killed the two men. Another individual, who was wounded in the initial engagement, was also found hiding in the wooded area and was subsequently detained. The suspect was treated on site and transported to a military medical facility for further care.

As the ground force secured the target area, they discovered several weapons, which were safely destroyed on site, along with a vehicle used for terrorist activity. During the series of operations in the area, Coalition forces also detained 15 other suspected terrorists.

Farther north in Mosul, Coalition forces targeted associates of an al-Qaeda in Iraq leader allegedly responsible for coordinating and directing numerous terrorist attacks in the region. Intelligence reports indicate the individuals had executed a man earlier in the day and were later observed in the target area.

During the operation this morning, Coalition forces were engaged on two separate occasions by armed men as they attempted to clear target buildings in the area. The men charged at the Coalition forces’ position, and the ground force engaged the enemy, killing four terrorists. As the ground force continued to clear the area, they were engaged by machine gun fire and grenades from underneath one of the structures. Responding in self-defense, Coalition forces returned fire and called for supporting aircraft to engage. Once enemy fire ceased, the ground force assessed that five terrorists were killed during the engagement. Coalition forces also detained one suspect during the operation.

In Baghdad Monday, Coalition forces targeted an alleged al-Qaeda member involved in bomb-making operations within the south Karkh car-bombing network. As the ground force arrived in the area, they observed six men maneuvering away from the target building. Coalition forces followed the men and detained four of the suspects. The two other individuals were subsequently engaged. One of them was killed, while the remaining suspect was wounded, detained and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Five suspected terrorists were detained south of Hawija today, during operations targeting an al-Qaeda leader for the network operating in Kirkuk.

“We continue to disrupt al-Qaeda networks that are conducting attacks against the Iraqi people and the security forces that protect them,” said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. “Operations like these show that, while al-Qaeda remains a threat, Iraqi and Coalition forces will take the fight to the terrorists, diminishing their ability to attack innocent civilians.”

“Report: More tapes exists showing Egyptian complicity in Gaza smuggling
Government officials tell Ynet that there are additional video tapes revealing Egyptian assisting smugglers bring people and weapons into Gaza Strip. A tape clearly showing Egyptian officials helping Hamas members enter Gaza was sent to US but, in the end, not shown to US Congress”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Government officials told Ynet on Tuesday that the IDF has in its possession additional videotapes which prove Egypt’s complicity in the ongoing smuggling of weapons and terrorists into the Gaza Strip.

“The Egyptian unease is trivial in comparison to the lack of security for citizens of the State of Israel – to whom the rocket attacks, explosive devices, and mortars smuggled into Israeli from the Philadelphi corridor are addressed,” a government official told Ynet on Tuesday.”

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Tue Dec 25 2007 03:41:27 GMT-0800 (PST).

ALGERIA

December 23, 2007

This Travel Warning is being updated to alert U.S. citizens to recent terrorist attacks in Algeria . The threat from terrorism in many areas of the country continues to pose a significant security risk. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on September 14, 2007.

The Department of State urges U.S. citizens who travel to Algeria to evaluate carefully the risk posed to their personal safety. Sustained small-scale terrorist attacks including bombings, false roadblocks, kidnappings, ambushes, and assassinations occur regularly, particularly in northeastern Algeria . A roadside bomb targeted a bus transporting foreign workers of a U.S. company in the western part of Algiers in December 2006. In April 2007 three suicide bombers detonated vehicle-borne explosives outside of government buildings in central Algiers . Three more suicide bomb attacks in July and September 2007 in Lakhdaria, Batna and Dellys killed more than 80 Algerians. On December 11, 2007, two vehicle-borne explosive devices were detonated at the UN headquarters and the Algerian Constitutional Council in Algiers . The attacks occurred in residential areas where many diplomatic missions are located. The group that claimed credit for the December 11 attacks has pledged more attacks against foreign targets, and specifically American targets.

The U.S. Government considers the potential threat to U.S. Embassy personnel assigned to Algiers sufficiently serious to require them to live and work under significant security restrictions. These practices limit, and may occasionally prevent, the movement of U.S. Embassy officials in certain areas of the country. The Government of Algeria requires U.S. Embassy personnel traveling outside the province of Algiers or to the Casbah within Algiers to seek permission and to have a security escort. Travel to the military zone established around the Hassi Messaoud oil center requires Government of Algeria authorization. Daily movement of Embassy personnel in Algiers is limited, and prudent security practices are required at all times. Travel by personnel to areas of the city outside the center requires prior coordination with the Embassy’s Regional Security Office. American visitors are encouraged to contact the Embassy’s Consular Section for the most recent safety and security information concerning travel in the city of Algiers .

The Department of State recommends that U.S. citizens avoid overland travel in the mountainous northern part of the country, and particularly in the area stretching from Algiers east to the Tunisian border.

The Department of State cautions Americans who reside or travel in Algeria to take prudent security measures while in the country, including making provisions for reliable and experienced logistical support. This support should include being met upon arrival and accompanied for the duration of the visit. Visitors should ensure that tour operators and host organizations perform all notifications and coordination with Algerian police and security officials during their stay. Visitors to Algeria are advised to stay only in hotels where adequate security is provided. Avoid places where Westerners are known to congregate or visit, including bars and restaurants, places of worship, or schools. All visitors to Algeria should remain alert and adhere to prudent security practices such as avoiding predictable travel patterns and maintaining a low profile.

Thanks MamaD.

Here in Texas we are definitely outnumbered.

I think our gingerbread house was out voted because they let the employees vote in addition to the guests and housekeeping of course brought in their entire families to vote. They copied the picture on the box rather than being inventive like we were plus they had two days head start. We went out and bought our own decorations.

When I first volunteered to help there were two people who would judge, so an appeal will be filed. LOL

Merry Christmas

“Merry Christmas...
...and a belated Happy Hanukkah.”

SNIPPET: “Christmas greetings are on-topic, for Christmas is on the jihadists’ to-do list of manifestations of jahiliyya — un-Islamic ignorance — to be eliminated once they get the chance. So, if you are so inclined, you can strike a blow for Western civilization by openly celebrating Christmas today.

Happy New Year, also. May we all continue to strive in 2008 to defend the civilization built by those who throughout history have celebrated these holy days, and to convince those who have forgotten or who have never recognized its value that this civilization indeed worth defending.

And now for a little more haram festivity. Jihad Watcher Isabella the Crusader sends along these Christmas gems:”
