Suppose in the 1992 presidential election, after an unconfirmed rumor surfaced about an alleged affair then President Bush had years earlier, Clinton supporters decided to make marital fidelity a central issue. That would be almost as crazy as the current effort by some Bush backers to focus attention on John Kerry's Vietnam War record and subsequent protests. This is being significantly funded and directed by Texas fat cats and political operatives who have more than a passing relationship with Bush political guru Karl Rove. These are some of the same people who surreptitiously smeared John McCain in the last election. There's a Web site, some vicious TV ads are supposed to start this week, and a man, who was a pawn of the Nixon White House efforts to discredit John Kerry 33 years ago, has written a book attacking Mr. Kerry's Vietnam experiences. The charges are that Sen. Kerry has exaggerated his war record, maligned all Americans soldiers when he later protested against the war, and learned the wrong lessons from Vietnam.

Well, at least Al "Michael" Hunt got this part right.
As previously said, Kerry made Vietnam a main issue of his campaign, even going so far as to give a very poorly rendered salute as he addessed the DNC.
The vets he has previously maligned have every right to get right in his face over this issue.
> John Kerry's Vietnam War record matters because he
> is the one that keeps bringing it up.
Apart from that, the present flap apparently resulted
from JfK running that unit photo on his web site, and
implying support from all who served with him. That
motivated the vets to do something about it. I could
be mistaken, but it's my impression that they started
the effort before they got funding.
Of course they got funding from someone not thrilled
with JfK. Who were they going to approach? Soros?
HELP!
Somebody with LexisNexus needs to help get access to the Kerry speech on the floor of the Senate in 1986 in which he elaborated on his "Christmas in Cambodia".
Somebody needs to help by getting video from C-SPAN or the like of the speech he gave. Obviously Nixon was NOT president in 1968 and to prove the falsehoods underlying the core of Hanoi John's supposed beliefs undermines everything he has ever taken a posion on!
Somebody HELP Please!
Al Hunt is way beyond liberal, and also a giant horses a$$.
Hey, Al Hunt, buzz off. Kerry's service record is just as legitimate an area of inquiry as is GWB's service record. Plus, Kerry's record "smells more fishy," if you get my drift. We see that YOU aren't interested in the truth.
UGH!!! This continued spewing and spinning by the libs on this issue is INFURIATING!!!!!!
He's got it all backward (I'm not surprised). If Pres. Bush had made marital fidelity the central issue of his campaign, and Clinton found out he had been unfaithful, then Clinton would have had every right to raise the issue in response.
Kerry has made his "heroism" in Vietnam the central issue in his campaign, and the SBV's have every right to contest that issue. Kerry brought it up!!!!!
This is SO UNLIKE the dirty trick vis a vis W's DUI which was held and then released on the eve of the election in 2000.
The liberals (and some others) are absolutely in unison on this...dirty trick, dishonorable, not on Kerry's boat, etc.......They have their talking points firmly in place. It is going to take A LOT to overcome their continued mantra. We can't let up and let them win!
Al Hunt is on the Kerry Talking Point mailing list, and so is Donna Brazille. Yesterday on Crossfire, Brazille also accused the swiftboaters of being the same ones who went after John McCain in 2000. She said they went after Max Cleland too.
Karl Rove is the Kerry's incarnation of Hillary's VRWC.
His poor taste in friends(Kerry) shows how ill equipped he is for higher office!
Sheeeese......where was the similar outrage when the Kerry people were questioning Bush's service to this country during the same period??? I seem to recall that Kerry took an active part in that outrage. Didn't hear any criticism from Hunt about that!
I disagree, mostly because the internet will be the difference in this election that it could not be in 1992. I do understand the source of your sentiments.
At least Benedict Arnold EARNED his medals before he betrayed his country.
Christmas in Cambodia was completely shredded by Steve Gardner yesterday on Michael Savage's show. Gardner was with him on the boat at that time, and he says that they never got within 50 miles of Cambodia. He apparently has the boat log record which validates this.
Kerry caught in a whopper. He's coming to Portland next Friday; I plan to be there with a huge TELL ME ABOUT CHRISTMAS IN CAMBODIA, JOHN sign.
Nothing. He's a useful idiot...as most of his columns suggest. And, like most liberals, the more he screams the less effective he becomes. Just ask Howard Dean.
Yeah, suppose that!
I wish that I could remember it, but I'm drawing a blank here.
1. If you run on your military service, it's fair game.
2. If you and your supporters call your opponent's military service into question, yours is fair game, too. Call it the Golden Rule of politics: Screw others only as you'd be screwed unto.
Brazille told an outright lie. The Swifts weren't formed until this year. Ted Sample's group were the ones who went after McCain.
I'm sure Brazille doesn't care, anyhow. They are all "baby killers" in her eyes. All except John Kerry.
And the adoring display dedicated to JF'nK in Ho Chi Min City by the Commies really ought to get more exposure too....there's just SO MUCH that needs to be hung around this loser's neck!
Al Hunt likes to grease-down our windshields, blur our vision, and have us take the wrong fork in the road. So does his wife.
Partisan as they come.
I don't think Karl Rove as anything to do with this. Liberals think freedom of speech in America has two tiers: their tier is total 5-Star anything goes, ours is restricted to the point where truth is disallowed.
John Kerry, Al Hunt, Bill O'Reilly, Shep Smith
girlie men all.
Nothing.
Anyone know if Al Hunt is liberal?
He is, indeed.
BTW, to Al Hunt, I know for a fact you did not think questioning George W. Bush's military service was "beyond the pale", so shove it.
