Amid some already-historic changes around college football that include major conference realignment and an expanded playoff format, some interested parties are proposing another structural change to the sport: a so-called "Super League," according to The Athletic. The group calls itself College Sports Tomorrow. Composed of sports executives, university presidents, and at least one NFL official, it has a plan: Take the 70 most important programs in college football, including every Power Five school and Notre Dame, and name them as permanent members of a national league.

It was an uncharacteristic day for Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. It just also happened to be the biggest day of his collegiate career. In college football’s season finale, Michigan vitiated Washington and the usual magnificence of Penix to claim the College Football Playoff national championship for the first time and the program’s first title since the 1997 season. Penix went 27-of-51 passing for 255 yards and one touchdown — the only Washington TD on the night — against two interceptions. It was, statistically, a performance discouraging of complaints, but overthrown open passes and missed third-down conversions (2 for 14)...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The heartache won’t go away. Not anytime soon, anyway. Not for Florida State players and coaches who were driven to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff and play for another title. The Seminoles had to settle for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, which followed a perfect regular season. “Nobody can take that from us,” senior defensive back Jarrian Jones said. The CFP selection committee dropped Florida State (13-0) from fourth to fifth and outside the four-team playoff, a move it justified because of star quarterback Jordan Travis’ season-ending broken leg. It prompted outrage from...

(Key stakeholders were intrigued by the possibility of a new FBS subdivision that could allow schools to pay players directly) LAS VEGAS -- If there is a college athletics revolution in the near future, the NCAA is now admitting it wants to be part of it. In a letter sent to membership Tuesday, NCAA president Charlie Baker proposed sweeping changes to his association's amateurism model that would essentially create pay for play between schools and athletes. Baker proposed a new subdivision consisting of schools "with the highest resources" that would likely separate itself from the rest of the Football Bowl...

It goes down at these HBCU games! We just witnessed a brawl between Morgan State football players and Norfolk State band members just a few days ago, and here we go again as a Texas Southern Ocean of Soul tuba player rocked the soul out of a fan who effed around and found out. Assuming that the guy was a Jackson State fan, his trash talk didn’t go well for him whatsoever, and that’s an understatement. His team might have gotten the 21-19 dub to push them up to 7-3 on the season, and even did so in dramatic fashion...

This Saturday's game between No. 24 USC and Cal is currently delayed due to a protest taking place on the field. Moments ago, Brandon Huffman of 247Sports shared a photo of people sitting at midfield at California Memorial Stadium. "Just before kickoff at Cal-USC in Berkeley and a protest of some sort is going on at midfield," Huffman wrote. There appears to be at least a dozen people protesting on the field. At this time, it's unclear as to what they're protesting about.

Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders is one of the hottest coaches in football at the moment. The Buffaloes are currently 3-0 and ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press poll with a huge game at Oregon coming this weekend. But it wasn’t always clear that Sanders was headed for success in Boulder. He took plenty of criticism from posting his first meeting with his team. In no uncertain terms, he told the team that he was bringing his “Louis Vitton luggage” with him from Jackson and any player that didn’t like it should hit the portal. Over 40 players took...

The Deion Sanders era at Colorado started with a massive upset. The Buffaloes got a late fourth-down stop with 55 seconds left to hang on for a 45-42 win over No. 17 TCU in Fort Worth on Saturday. QB Shedeur Sanders — the son of the Pro Football Hall of Famer — set the Colorado single-game record for passing yards while two-way star Travis Hunter had 11 catches as a wide receiver and an interception as a defensive back. “I’m so thankful right now … man I’m loving these kids," Deion Sanders told Fox after the game. "Great joy for...

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly will be suspended by the program following self-imposed sanctions. Harbaugh had been facing a four-game suspension from the NCAA, but negotiations collapsed seemingly at the 11th hour. It now appears UM will attempt to cut off the NCAA Committee on Infractions before it can get involved. The program will suspend Harbaugh for all three non-conference games, according to multiple Monday afternoon reports. No official announcement has come from the university. If the reported suspension decision holds, Harbaugh will miss games against East Carolina, UNLV and Bowling Green, and the star coach will then return...

When Deion Sanders walked into Colorado's meeting room for the first time, he told players that the more of them that enter the transfer portal, the more room they'll make for players who are "smart, tough, fast, [and] disciplined with character." After the Buffaloes' spring game, 13 more players decided to hit the portal on Monday. The football world reacted to Colorado's mass exodus of players on social media. "He's gotta have some DAWGS lined up to join him out of the portal! There's no way he just starts talking crazy to kids and making them want to leave," a...

Former Washington State coach Nick Rolovich is finally speaking out about his reasoning for not getting the COVID-19 vaccine in 2021 and the "ugly conversations" he says occurred with school administrators that led up to his firing. Rolovich, in his first public comments since his firing, told Allison Williams, the host of The Daily Wire's Breakaways, in an interview published on Friday that "lack of answers, lack of dialogue" about the effects of the vaccine, as well as his beliefs as a Catholic, led him to not comply with Gov. Jay Inslee's mandate for Washington state employees. Washington State fired...

Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman has been cleared to return to action, the school announced Tuesday. Hartman, a three-year starter, was sidelined last month with what the school termed a "non-football injury." Tuesday, Wake Forest acknowledged Hartman was diagnosed with Paget-Schroetter syndrome -- also known as effort thrombosis -- a blood clot often associated with repeated strenuous activity.

Decoldest Crawford has one of the best names in college football history. Maybe sports history. Thanks to the NIL rules that were implemented last season, he can now profit off his great name. A few weeks ago SOS Heating & Cooling in Omaha, Nebraska announced that it had signed the incoming Nebraska freshman wide receiver as a spokesperson and everyone agreed that made perfect sense. Now we have the actual ad and it is delightful. Perfect. Just a straightforward ad read by a young man with a thick Lousiana accent. And this is sure to be the most famous regional...

..........The amount owed to each athlete would be the half of the sport’s total revenue minus the team’s total student grant-in-aid package divided by the number of players. For instance, each USC football player could make upwards of $200,000 a year. Think about taking $15 million to $20 million that currently has been used to reinvest in football resources and to fund the rest of the athletic department and transferring it to football players, and it’s easy to see why administrators are getting ready for a fight.
