Massive Volcano Near Naples Begins Rumbling
Catholic Culture ^ | 12/23/16

A volcanic field off the shore of Sicily, near Naples, has become active, scientists report.

The Campi Flegrei volcano is much larger than nearby Mt. Vesuvius, the volcano whose eruption destroyed the ancient city of Pompei. An eruption of this “supervolcano” could endanger much of Europe.

News of the volcanic activity was made public less than a week after the blood of St. Januarius failed to liquefy when displayed in the Naples cathedral. Sicilians have long believed that when the miracle of St. Januarius does not occur, disaster will follow for the people of Naples.

A supervolcano caused the largest eruption in European history. Now it’s stirring again. (Washington Post)

Blood of St. Januarius does not liquefy; Naples residents see bad omen (CWN 12/19/16)

Does anyone have a geological or topographical map of that area of the continent?

The map will show you that the Mediterranean is a tectonic plate margin with the inevitable volcanos, huge mountain ranges rift areas and a complicated geology. It’s most likely that Naples was built on a margin plume, hot spot as well. Two huge volcanos sharing a common magma pool is scary. However, there have been numerous small eruptions which bled off some of the potential. A super eruption is inevitable in the long run but not guaranteed in the near turm.

This seems like the equivalent of a major metropolitan area built on the Yellowstone caldera. Crazy!

The caldera on the lower left of the bottom image is Carney Park a recreation area for NSA Naples. It has a 9 hole golf course, ball fields camping etc.

We lived about 10 min east of there,

The caldera had it’s own weather, it could be comfortable short sleeve weather outside, go into it and it could be 20 degrees colder. I was told there was a reservoir beneath it, one of the stranger places I have been.

There may be some problem with finding a trained Haruspex. They probably only exist anymore only in online games. Just as well. Divination is forbidden (At least, I do not think the Argentinian has gotten around to changing this yet....) Why risk your eternal soul listening to someone who makes his living by sifting through chicken entrails. Stick with the relic!

Certainly don’t want to waste a valuable and rare resource throwing them into a volcano.

“Get the Virgin sacrifices ready.”

As the father of two daughters over age 16 who fall in this category, I agree that we not get hasty.

Still, there are millions of progressive women age 18 to 40 who have refused to have sex since Trump’s win last month. Do they qualify as virgins? I’d be happy to give them up.

Well, we could throw in madonna, make the volcano gag and choke on it’s own molten rock.

Oh my goodness! That whole area is built in and around many calderas. What are they thinking?!?!?!?!? If any of those go, thousands will die instantly.

Though God does. He set the building of Earth in motion.

Tectonics are the actions of physics. Despite their seeming indifference to humanity, humanity could not exist without their actions.

Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukah.
