We need more FR Poet Laureates [Post an original poem and win a bun.]
September 18, 2003 | Me

Posted on 09/18/2003 1:01:45 AM PDT by paulklenk

Freepers,

Poetry is the soul of our hearts. We can converse, pontificate, and rally til the cows come home, but we really show our humanity, wit and truest selves in our poetry.

Doug From Upland is a fine example of such an artist. In his poems, we feel -- but we not only feel, we feel each other.

Let's show our true colors and show the world the Conservatives are not just lovers of freedom -- we're lovers of words, heart and feelings as well.

Post your original poem here. It need not rhyme. If you see a poem you like, vote for it by bumping it to the top. If you think you can do better, post a poem of your own.

Let's get the ball rolling with a poem of the silly variety -- remember, we don't have to be serious ALL the time. Here goes:

Plastic pie, plastic pie,
Shot a spastic in the eye.
Jesus heal'd that spastic's eye!
Pretty, pretty plastic pie!

Pretty, pretty plastic pie,
Much more fun than just plain pie!
Me oh my, oh why can't I
Have a pretty piece of pie?

Here I sit plain as ever.
Took a dump and pulled the lever.
The toilet clogged.
The water flowed.
Look out world, it's a mother-load!

Okee dokee.

.

Our make believe prez, Martin Sheen
Thought all his detractors were mean
So he ordered to jail
His incoming mail
And vetoed his answer machine.

Those in Hillary's way are attacked

Howard Dean is about to be sacked

And if Clark gets the nod

And she's VEEP, omigod

Is there any doubt she'll have him whacked?

Some days I just leave the meter to the others and let the message rule:

Hill'ry had two thigh'd hams
Their fleece was white as snow
But she was afraid to shave them, 'cause
[Her mom said] That'd make her ankles grow....

Bucket Barf Bags!
When your tummy get queesy,
And the room starts to whirl,
Don't try to hold it,
Give us a hurl!
Bucket Barf Bags! The only way to throw!...up!

One of my favorite poems of all, for some unknown reason...very powerful.

-----

In darkness let me dwell,
The ground shall sorrow be,
The roof, despair, to bar,
All cheerful light from me.
The walls of marble black,
That moistened still shall weep,
My music, hellish, jarring sounds,
To banish friendly sleep.
Thus wedded to my woes,
And bedded to my tomb,
Oh! Let me living die,
Till Death; till Death do come.

Original poem, eh? The last one was kind of an advertisement, so here goes for a true "poem".

-----

Dark, the light upon each day
He wakes to live in slow decay
No one cares to mourn or grieve
A soul so happy to deceive

And yet some try, and fail so much
To conjer up sympathy and such
And in the end, they give up and leave
A soul so happy to deceive

Living in the shadows, like
They are the day and not the night
A strange and evil fellow is he,
A soul so happy to deceive

The days do pass, and nights do fade
And there he lays upon his grave
Not a man to cry or weep
For a soul so happy to deceive

-----
No, I'm not gothic, leave me alone. XD

Thank you. It's totally turned around from how it started, it started very bitter and cynical. Before I wrote that, before I started writing in sonnet, I wrote the following, for no one in particular. It says little about me but tons about my wife.

         HELP WANTED

Recently widowed man needs the following household help:

A woman who:

Is sincere, kind, and loving and demands that I be the same
Vows to be honest and demands that I vow the same
Loves seafood and steaks and corn on the cob
Laughs way more than she cries, but when she cries,
cries louder than she laughs
Usually has her feet on the ground, but is unafraid to let
her heart have wings
Is as comfortable in an evening gown as blue jeans
Could not live without lilacs and lavender, marigolds and mauve
Knows that I am not perfect, but I will always treat her
as if she were
Fais l'amour lentement, mais foutre vivant
Loves candlelit dinners and blt's, and sometimes even
eats blt's by candlelight
Is mature and poised, but still has some sixteen-year-old girl in her
Wishes upon a star
Is as happy in her garden as she is in the mall
Trusts me enough to tell me all her secrets, but keeps some
of them secret anyways
Will trade her nightly back rubs for my afternoon naps
Still believes that not all love stories have tragic endings
Knows she cannot reach the stars, but feels she can touch them
Will blush and protest when I tell her she is as beautiful without
makeup as with it, but deep down never doubt it
Is curious, and sometimes acts curiously
Will hold my hand at dinner
Knows and feels that the kind of love she needs is almost exactly
the same as the kind of love she gives
Knows when I need to be told to go to hell, and knows
when to apologize
Dreams of a dog in the backyard, a swing on the porch,
and a white picket fence
Surrenders
Forgives the man who is crazy-in-love with her when he does crazy things

Qualified applicants only
No references required, believe me, I'll know

Dedicated to my lost love.

There was a lass called Lewinsky.
With dark wavy hair and good skinsky.
Lots of fun so he thought
Until he got caught
Now what a pain in the buttinsky!

Dark and lonely on a summer's night.

Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.

Watchdog barking. Do he bite?

Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.

Slip in his window. Break his neck.

Then his house I start to wreck.

Got no reason. What the heck?

Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.

C-I-L my land lord!

With apologies to Eddie Murphy
