Electric buses are sitting unused in cities across the US; here's why

Cities coast-to-coast grappling with broken-down e-buses that cannot be fixed ..

Between the federal government, states and municipalities, untold billions in taxpayer dollars have been spent adding electric buses to transit fleets across the U.S. in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.

However, cities from coast-to-coast are grappling with broken-down e-buses that cannot be fixed, are too expensive to fix, or they have scrapped their electric fleets altogether.

Officials in Asheville, North Carolina, recently expressed frustration that three of the five e-buses the city purchased for millions in 2018 are now sitting idle due to a combination of software issues, mechanical problems and an inability to obtain replacement parts.

Earlier this month, The Denver Gazette reported two of the four e-buses Colorado Springs' Mountain Metropolitan Transit acquired in 2021 are not running. They cost $1.2 million a piece, mostly paid for by government grants.

Part of the problem is the manufacturer of the buses, Proterra, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August. The company, founded in 2004, rose to become the largest e-bus company in the U.S., representing nearly 40% of the market prior to going belly-up.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm sat on Proterra's board until she joined the Biden administration

...

In 2020, The Philadelphia Tribune reported SEPTA's entire $24 million fleet of Proterras had been pulled out of commission.

...

Foothill Transit, based in West Covina and serving the San Gabriel Valley, parts of Los Angeles and Pomona Valley, had 13 idled battery-electric buses out of 32 in its fleet. At one point, the agency indicated up to 67% of its electric buses were not operating during 2019 and 2020."

Massive air drop on John F’in Kerry’s houses from 50,000 feet with every one of them. Or the next WEF meeting.

What’s the matter? The e-bus manufacturers and dealers got their money, which was the real purpose for all this. So all is good.

I worked on a lot of NG vehicle projects during my career. It’s indeed a great fuel for some applications, especially transit. Unfortunately, the handwriting was on the wall once the insane EV push started. NG went from “clean, green, natural gas” to “dirty carbon.” A lot of lost opportunity.

You overlooked the most important stakeholder of all...
"The e-bus manufacturers, dealers AND POLITICIANS got their money"
Of course, the politicians are all dealers, too. They deal us a crooked deal every time.

I was one of thousands stuck on 95 in Virginia. I had 1/4 tank of gas, no food and a little water. I had zero concerns about freezing to death or running out of gas.

I was heading south and planning to fill up once I got through northern Virginia and I wasn’t listening to the radio. No idea my life was about to stop for 15 hours. It was just a small adventure.

Boston’s had excellent results with its Natural Gas fleet“

So of course the rats want to eliminate NG.

“...Proterra, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August...”

But of course. They made their fortune off the filthy Biden scam and are getting out while the getting is good, Ashville a bunch of ringpieces anyhow.

Our local transportation agency here on the California central coast Santa Cruz Metro bought 8 Proterra ev buses for $10 million. They are sitting unused.

Nashua has the natural gas city busses too.

However, didn’t Mayor Wu buy a bunch of Electric School buses about six months ago. I seem to recall Greg Hill on WEEI talking about this.

These people paid way too much for these busses. See https://www.gregorypoole.com/school-bus-costs/ to see what I mean.

Do we wonder where all the excess payments went???

Something to consider....all that tax money used to support ‘green energy’ and ‘zero emission vehicles’ has it’s own carbon footprint. It took commerce to produce the tax revenue, and commerce has a CO2 per dollar of revenue cost. It may be small PER DOLLAR, but when the dollar amounts reach BILLION$ it is quite significant.

Depending on the amount of mileage they got out of these things before they went kaput, counting the amount of conventional energy needed to mine the materials, produce the metals and plastics used, build the batteries and supply the electricity needed to charge them, among other expenses related to fabrication and delivery, etc, it’s likely that many of these buses - perhaps most - led to a net *increase* of carbon dioxide emissions before they died.

And would one expect anything less from these smarter-than-thou greenies?

“”Granholm made $1.6 million selling her stock in the company””

Using the phrase “wetting their beak” no longer suffices for the massive money transfers to the democRATS. Even the latest phrase “10% for the Big Guy” fails to encompass the size and scope of the grift.

Here is a great example. Jamie Gorelick

Gorelick is most famous for implementing the “wall” between intelligence agencies while serving under Billy Boy Clinton. Clinton didn’t want anyone being able to connect the dots on all of his shenanigans. This ‘wall’ was instrumental in stopping America from preventing 9/11. And to really put insult to injury, Gorelick was appointed to the 9/11 Commission to “find out what happened.” To reward her for all her ‘good works’ she spent some time on the Board of Fannie Mae, raking in $$millions$$. Eric Holder also benefited as a Fannie board member. Today, Gorelick is now receiving more government largesse serving on as Chair of the Homeland Security Advisory Council for the Hussein/Biden Regime. No doubt making absolutely sure that the US border remain as porous as possible.

“Natural gas? But that’s a “fossil” fuel (methane) that the commies will ban.
But how did this “fossil” fuel get on Saturn’s moon, Titan?”

Don’t be silly.
Everyone knows there was Dinosaurs on Titan, and Saturn.
That’s why it has racetracks around the outside.
