Former President Trump on Tuesday declined to say whether he will stick by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) as his bid to become Speaker appeared to hit a wall.
“We’ll see what happens,” Trump told NBC News in a phone conversation when asked if he stands by his endorsement of McCarthy.
“I got everybody calling me wanting my support,” Trump told NBC. “But let’s see what happens and we’ll go — I got everybody calling, wanting my support. That’s all I can say. But we’ll see what happens. We’ll see how it all works out.”

“I don’t think it’s keeping Trump up at night.”
It should. Trump said not supporting McCarthy was playing a dangerous game.
The real world results should have been humbling.
Who are all these people calling him with so few want the job?
yes, it’s glaringly obvious that KM is NOT conservative and DJT should never have endorsed him. I say he (DJT) should come out and tell people to rally behind Jordan and get this done.
The fat lady hasn’t sung yet. I’m sure there’s still a lot of cloak and dagger shenanigans going on behind the scenes as we speak. It’s anybody’s guess how this will end. As Trump says, “We’ll see.”
Why wasn’t PDJT working the phones instead of fielding calls asking for his support? Because he’s just not that into McCarthy.
At what point does McCarthy fold and have to vacate his prematurely inhabited Speaker’s office? That’s would be humiliating.
Take your cape off and grow some balls, SuperTrump.
Re: 8 - LOL!
I would like to think that Trump was smart enough to endorse McCarthy, in order to have this confrontation occur, but then I could be giving Trump too much credit.
I would prefer Jordan over McCarthy any day of the week, but telling Congressmen to line up behind a guy who is currently looking at a 20-202 deficit in the vote makes for some terrible political optics.

Serious question that we all need to ask ourselves....since when did democrats give a crap about optics when they were force feeding their agenda down our throats? They have been pretty damned effective by not giving a crap. When are we going to join the real fight?
Seems like Trump is beginning to realize he made a big mistake by backing McCarthy, just like he messed up by backing McConnell.
He often does not listen to the base at first, but then corrects himself when he sees what we think.
I’d say we’ve finally entered the fight today, Maybe.
Problem is, he’s wearing the base out with stuff like this.
I’m seeing/hearing that a lot around here, and even my mother just told me that over the phone.
What is this headline even supposed to mean.
The bigger question is will McCarthy stick with Trump.
The RINOs in the House will have to decide whether they can tolerate a Speaker who likely will make the Democrats look bad, or simply give their votes to the Democrats for Speaker.
If they do the second, my prediction is that Republican Party ceases to be a major party, and someone, maybe Trump, will then give the tens of millions of conservatives a REAL home.
I hope McCarthy the Squish gets tossed out on his useless behind. He is living with Frank Luntz who is a very prominent Demonrat strategist and probably his lover. McCarthy is Deep State.
Why not Donald Trump, for Speaker! Come on! A missed opportunity, here!
The base is not getting “wore out” with the votes, they hate McCarthy. I know I do.
