Herschel Walker, the GOP nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, said people who are worried about the high cost of insulin should “eat right” in his only debate against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) on Friday.
During an exchange about the economy and the high cost of living, Warnock touted his work passing legislation lowering prescription drug prices, including a $35 cap on monthly insulin costs. He noted that Walker had opposed the law, which is called the Inflation Reduction Act.
Walker responded by saying the Inflation Reduction Act had not reduced inflation. Then he argued that people who need insulin should think about eating better.
“I believe in reducing insulin but at the same time, you gotta eat right. I know many people that’s on insulin. Unless you’re eating right, insulin is doing you no good. So you have to get food prices down and you gotta get gas down so you can go get insulin,” the GOP candidate said.

Oops, yeah, conflating Diabetes Type 1 and Diabetes Type 2 is common.
Live and learn? Hopefully. Everyone can and should.
He is dumber than a box of rocks even by the standards of politicians. He sounds a Democrat politician from LA.
Per the CDC, over 90% of diabetics are Type II.
I know quite a few.
None of them got that way eating a healthy diet.
If you are talking about insulin prices and patients who are impacted by them then yeah, know something about them might be nice.
You vote the issues not the flawed man.
I bet Walker will be awesome in the Senate if he makes it.
“...his complete ignorance in this area...”
I have friends and family with diabetes, several them acute. And their diet was very important. If he ate food he shouldn’t he would pump extra insulin into his system. I don’t see ignorance in his statement. Although in my ignorance, I only know what I have observed.
Regardless, eating right is the right thing to do.
I was Type 1 for 2+ years, and after changing my diet radically, came off the Novolog (3x/day) and Lantus (1x/day), to Metformin and Jardiance. My daily BSL check is now between 80 - 115, as opposed to 400-500 when I went onto insulin in 2017.
My friend’s husband has had Type 1 since he was a small child. He takes insulin 2x a day, but he still pays extreme attention to his diet; he MUST. Didn’t even have a bite of his wedding cake.
I know a few people with both types of diabetes and they are terrible at eating regular and healthy meals.
The ones that are overweight eat sugary crap in mast proportions and the other type skips meals and their blood sugar drops dangerously low.
So yeah, healthy eating does affect your insulin usage.
Early reviews indicate that Walker did not deliver a disaster of a performance. Benefit of exceedingly low expectations, I guess. Denied supporting abortion without restrictions. Admitted that Biden had won the election. Supported tuition relief. Things like that.
My son has been a Type I Diabetic since he was 17 years old. He is now pushing 40. He exercises and eats right and still needs insulin. Hopefully the price of insulin will come down eventually.

ONLINE POLL -
Does this man look 'dumber than a box of rocks' to YOU?
Such individuals are insulin resistant, as opposed to insulin dependent.
Those who are insulin dependent are in line for exactly ***zero*** criticism from the public at large (and that includes mewzilla and Herschel Walker) for unwise dietary choices.
In what universe? What makes Walker an awesome candidate?
Walker kicked butt, even the left-wing rags admit it.
Yeah.
As Americans we eat a lot of food that's bad for us and we sit on our behinds too much.
