In fairness to Walker his complete ignorance in this area probably isn't any different from most of his political opponents. And I'm sure he made other blunders. But an understanding between type 1 and type 2 diabetes would have been nice.

Oops, yeah, conflating Diabetes Type 1 and Diabetes Type 2 is common.

Live and learn? Hopefully. Everyone can and should.

He is dumber than a box of rocks even by the standards of politicians. He sounds a Democrat politician from LA.

You vote the issues not the flawed man.

I bet Walker will be awesome in the Senate if he makes it.

“...his complete ignorance in this area...”

I have friends and family with diabetes, several them acute. And their diet was very important. If he ate food he shouldn’t he would pump extra insulin into his system. I don’t see ignorance in his statement. Although in my ignorance, I only know what I have observed.

Regardless, eating right is the right thing to do.

I was Type 1 for 2+ years, and after changing my diet radically, came off the Novolog (3x/day) and Lantus (1x/day), to Metformin and Jardiance. My daily BSL check is now between 80 - 115, as opposed to 400-500 when I went onto insulin in 2017.

My friend’s husband has had Type 1 since he was a small child. He takes insulin 2x a day, but he still pays extreme attention to his diet; he MUST. Didn’t even have a bite of his wedding cake.

I know a few people with both types of diabetes and they are terrible at eating regular and healthy meals.

The ones that are overweight eat sugary crap in mast proportions and the other type skips meals and their blood sugar drops dangerously low.

So yeah, healthy eating does affect your insulin usage.

My son has been a Type I Diabetic since he was 17 years old. He is now pushing 40. He exercises and eats right and still needs insulin. Hopefully the price of insulin will come down eventually.

And in fairness to Walker....he's right. A proper diet and exercise are key aspects of managing diabetes and any other health issue.

As Americans we eat a lot of food that's bad for us and we sit on our behinds too much.

I deal with diabetics all day. Had a patient who two days after he had his second leg cut off from effects of diabetes, was sitting in his hospital room drinking the quart of orange soda his wife brought him.

That’s typical of what I see.

Not a thought in the world about what that’s doing to the insurance company.

Walker is acting like his doofus self. This is what he does. No one will listen to him on this. They’ll just use it during a hot political run But he’s not wrong.

He’s right, lots of people on insulin do not pay attention to their sugar levels.

I believe he meant reduce the cost of insulin, not reduce insulin, but both are good goals, likewise with reducing the cost of food so people can eat right. That’s a good combination.

A basic lesson on how this disease works should be required reading in Jr. High

Considering that costs to make ANY product flucuate all the time, it is NOT the business of the government to tell medical companies what the cost of their product should be.

The APPROVAL time frame for ANY medical item is long & arduous. That is the ONLY part the Government should have any part of.

Instead. the government keeps making rules about wages/salaries. A $22 an hour fast food worker causes burgers to be in the R$6-8 range-—where is the “equity” in all of this???

IF It costs me $ 60 a month to produce a month’s worth of insulin and you demand a retail cap of $35 a month-—I WILL QUIT MAKING INSULIN.

According to the CDC (yes, wonderful aren't they), 95% of diabetes cases are Type 2. (Here's the NIH source)

Headline: ‘Herschel Walker Says People Worried About High Insulin Costs Should Just ‘Eat Right’

Quote: “I believe in reducing insulin but at the same time, you gotta eat right.”

A little bit deceptive...
