Ha. Yep, we are doing fair to middlin’ now if we could just get that storage shed and root cellar (with a cistern)done before the election, or at least winter...
Horse hockey.
Preppers have been prepping for years. Where were the shortages then?
I started prepping in earnest in Jan when seeing the response by China to the Wuhan flu.
And that created shortages?
Nope. The shortages started in March when those who were NOT prepared went crazy with their panic buying because they realized they weren't ready for a lockdown and they didn't have enough food and TP for more then the next week. If they were lucky.
What creates shortages is people NOT prepping and then panic buying and hoarding when a disaster hits.
Happens every year here in the northeast. A major snowstorm is forecast and everyone rushes out in the teeth of the storm to panic buy milk, eggs, bread, water, etc, as if they don't have a bit of it in their house.
Us preppers sit back with a good book and laugh knowing that we're not idiots going out in dangerous weather and contributing to the problem because we got ready when the supply chain could handle it.
Additionally, preppers are not out panic buying massive quantities of food all at once. They do it surreptitiously over the years, buying a little extra here and there was they see a sale, so that no one knows they are doing it. It doesn't attract any attention because it is their regular shopping habits and the supply chain has adjusted to it.
You want to blame someone for the shortages, blame the people who have a 30 second planning horizon to their lives, who can't think past their next tweet or FB post.
Since it sounds like you are just looking to blame someone, lay the blame at the feet of the people to whom it belongs.
Mr mm has promised to build a root cellar in part of our basement, one of the corners where the outside walls are.
However, that is just going to have to wait as there are other more pressing projects to do in the next month, like get the propane line in.
In the meantime, I’ll use the garage part of the basement as the root cellar as it is much cooler. I’ll just have to watch the weather and if it gets too cold, move stuff so it doesn’t freeze.
Faith.
I hope things get better for you. Focus on improving your health in any way possible.
Preparing is good. Try to avoid taking bad news from places in other parts of the world too personally. Try to find more cheerful things to pay attention to: maybe a tech or hobby interest. And get outdoors as often as possible.
Yep. Seems like there’s always one more thing. We will have to make do with our portable generator if the electric goes out.
We have to finish the current projects before we know if we have the money for others. Hubby is already way over his estimate-he sucks at that—so it’s not a surprise.
>> A slow motion apocalypse.
Kinda like owning/operating a company.
Never ran short of TP or hand sanitizer.
Down to our last pint of 70% isopropyl alcohol, though. Once the stocks return we need to store more away.
Saw where we needed to improve some food stocks, so that's a plus, too.
Very good observation metmom.
I read some of them. Their honesty is refreshing:
- the wife of a trucker who is frustrated at her husband for not realizing how much food it actually takes to feed a family of four and three animals
- a man who prepped with dry goods, and lost it all in a flood
- a woman who has O2 deprivation issues, recently had surgery, is choked by the mask policies, and sees the elimination of cash for the scam that it is
- parents who see what this "lockdown" is doing to their children, but are powerless to do anything about it
I found this one man's comment particularly interesting. There is more, but here is an excerpt:
"Mark Twain once said History doesnt repeat itself, but it often rhymes. If history is a lens through which we may view the future, then we can expect the chaos and civil unrest to become much worse going forward as we enter the terminal decline stage of our American Empire.
We are now at the commencement phase of a violent conflict foreseen by such luminaries as Peter Turchin, who stated We are rapidly approaching a historical cusp, at which the U.S. will be particularly vulnerable to violent upheaval, and that societal crises can typically last for five to 15 years. Whether that upheavel will be a Communist Revolution and Counter-Revolution, or a Second Civil War, and more importantly who wins remains to be seen.
Steel yourselves Preppers, as the tribulations are just beginning. The days ahead will be marked by chaos and trepidation. Brother will turn against brother, father against son. Neighbors against neighbors. There will be no Mason-Dixon demarcation line. Instead the fighting will be street by street, house to house. All of your preparations will be put to the test. Nothing you have done to prepare yourselves and your families will have been done in vain. You should be accelerating your preps, pedal to the floor, in these last months before the real chaos starts.
It is my opinion that not enough Patriots are awakening to our dire situation fast enough to save The Republic. The Barbarians are not only pounding on the gates, they are already inside of the gates. Illegal immigrants have been pouring in for decades as the result of an increasingly open border policy that is swinging the vote in favor of Leftists who seek nothing less than the total destruction of American Values and of America itself to be re-molded using a Communist autocratic formula which has failed time and time again throughout history. The Long March of Communism through our institutions, schools, and halls of government is nearly complete, with decisive players in key positions within our government and military. Now several generals are even speaking openly about a military coup at the conclusion of the 2020 Election.
The erasure and revision of our history is fully supported by the Leftist media spearheaded by The New York Times 1619 Projects villification of our forefathers and founders of this great nation. Our places of worship and statues of saints are being desecrated and destroyed as the cities burn.
The conflict is coming, it cannot be reversed. It is here, now. At its beginning.
I am a sinful man, saved by the sacrifice of Christ. I am no better than anyone else, just forgiven. Those of us who look for the promise of His coming have that blessed Hope (Titus 2:13), but until then, we must occupy until He comes.
I think this reader nailed several things. Namely, this plandemic is meant to weaken us before the greater battles ahead gather steam. It has take the Left years to weaken the citizenry and the West to this point, but they sense victory now, and they are ready for next terrible stages of the battle.
Here is what we can do:
1. For those with faith, trust in the Lord.
2. If things do go sideways (even more than they currently are) in the next few months, plan and prepare as best you can. Not everyone has the finances to spend thousands of dollars on food and supplies. Just do what you can, because if the Left escalates the current civil war to the next level, we are a facing martial law scenario.
3. We should be prudent and wise, but not fearful. I've seen the fearful Karen's everywhere: at the grocery store, in the streets, at work, at the gas station. Their fear is palpable. If we pray, and meditate on God's Word, we realize that no matter what happens, He is in control.
The shortages started in March when those who were NOT prepared went crazy with their panic buying because they realized they weren’t ready for a lockdown = preppers
Tell me about it.
Just when I think we’re getting things done a whole ‘nother batch of something pops up.
That guy’s comment nailed it.
And you are quite correct about what our position as believers should be.
Are you going to be watching The Return this weekend?
Um, no.
They were not preppers.
Preppers were already prepared.
They were the ones who pooh-poohed preppers and prepping. they had the normalacy bias that told them that everything would always be the same and they didn’t have to worry about it or be ready.
It looks like you have no clue what a prepper is because preppers are not unprepared panic buyers, that’s for sure.
There was no need to do the binge shopping. It was a self induced shortage of stupid stuff.
At the risk of “you think YOU had it bad”, or such comments, I can say this now...
My SHTF moment was last month. I bugged out Labor Day weekend.
I bugged out with the clothes on my back and the contents of my car. No preps worthy of the name. I must start from scratch.
My former tribe mutinied and sold off most of our prepper gear, especially the icky, scary guns. They went back to just-in-time Walmart runs and fast food. And they totally embraced the BLM/A party line.
And the crowning irony is, I bugged out to a city that is now on fire - because there was nowhere else to go.
So, use me as a cautionary tale: even the best-laid plans and preps can be destroyed by those people you thought you could trust. My own personal lesson is:
Don’t Trust Anyone.
I haven't heard much about it, but will check it out. Thanks!
Wow Old Sarge. We will pray for you. God bless.
May you be safe and a light to those who are now around you and may you find peace through the storm you left behind. May you not falter in your faith, but grow even stronger and used by His hand and Spirit to be the hope that is His hope for those who are lost.
Keep on pressing on towards the goal, which is Christ Jesus.
