A Personal Letter To Stressed Out Preppers Who Are TIRED Of This Apocalypse
The Organic Prepper ^ | 9-23-2020 | Daisy Luther

Dear Friends:

2020 has certainly been quite a year so far, and a defining one for the preparedness movement. No longer are our stockpiles of rice, beans, and hand sanitizer objects that make us strange. Our stashes of TP would make us the envy of the neighborhood if, of course, anybody knew we had it.

So many of the things and beliefs that made us figures of mockery in the past are now proving their value. We’re learning, with a mixture of relief and perhaps dismay, that we weren’t so crazy after all.

When the first lockdown began, we weren’t out there emptying the shelves in the frenzied throng (even though we’re the ones who got blamed for it.) We were watchful but for the most part, comfortable with our preparations. We understood before things went sideways that extended events can result in civil unrest, crime sprees, and chaos. We realized that we could be facing shortages.

And then time went on.

And on.

And on.

This has been a year in which so many things have occurred that proved preppers have things right that it’s positively exhausting. We’ve had a pandemic, civil unrest, food shortages, increases in crime, exorbitant unemployment, and we’re facing an economic collapse, or at the very least, an economic crisis.

And we’re tired.

Maybe everyone doesn’t feel this way. Maybe you’re perfectly fine and you live on your back 40 and have been completely untouched by any of the above-mentioned crises. Maybe your finances are just fine, you never got out much anyway, and you’ve still got 8 years’ worth of food socked away to supplement the things you grow. Maybe you’re reading this as you spin goat hair into yarn from which you’ll make this year’s mittens.

[This is a picnic compare to the coming tribulation]

Unfortunately, that is correct. The 7-year Tribulation will make this look like a picnic.

The last half of that, the Great Tribulation will be even worse.

LOL! That’s right.
This girl is complaining about all this COVID 19 lockdown nonsense?
Just wait until you have to live off of the land running for your life daily and moving 20-30 miles at a time not able to trust anyone.

The so called preppers might not be prepped at all.

“Maybe you’re perfectly fine and you live on your back 40 and have been completely untouched by any of the above-mentioned crises.”

Other than having to wear a mask when I’m ‘Out Among The English’ and learning to order more foodstuffs on line, my life hasn’t changed much. BUT - that’s been by DESIGN for the past DECADE or so, anyway.

“Maybe your finances are just fine, you never go out much anyway, and you’ve still got 8 years’ worth of food socked away to supplement the things you grow.”

No debt, farm is paid off, crop land is rented, which pays for the taxes on the house and forested land is in a DNR program to grow Big Bucks and pasture land also rented out. Large garden and greenhouse...making the most of that for as long as I can in Zone 4 this year and beyond. Beau planted 30# of potatoes this season. We should have 30,000 pounds when we dig in a few weeks. ;) If we don’t lose electricity between land-lines and the generator, the freezer and canned goods could keep us going for a year or more, easily. If the power goes out, we’ll be grillin’ and chillin’!

“Maybe you’re reading this as you spin goat hair into yarn from which you’ll make this year’s mittens.”

I hate goats, having raised them as a, ‘kid.’ Beau detests sheep, having raised them as a kid. I DO crochet and Beau knits, and can tie any knot you’d ask him to, but I’m pretty sure we’re NOT going down that road, LOL! We’re pretty well stocked on warm socks. We always ask for them at Christmas-time, LOL!

Great article. Thanks for the PING!

I think a lot of folks are stressed these days.

It’s been quite a year. Even for me after suffering near devastation under the last term of Jorge Boosh and the 8 years of the Lying Kenyan.

Most of the world does not understand what is coming. Way too much normalcy bias in the folks that weren’t hit hard in the 2008 crash. For some, it seemed like a small bump in the road.

Now they’re seeing why we’ve been warning them all of these years. The Democrats have really been trying to tear down the country since Hillary lost.

They are complete radicals. At least a significant percentage are.

Bob,
So sorry to hear of all the hardships 2020 has brought to you and your family. I want you to know you’re not alone. I understand the difficulty trying to find employment as a pre-senior. I will pray for you.

I am getting my raised beds in.

As we’ve been looking over the property, we are finding cinder blocks strewn all over the place, along with some old tires. The previous owner said he removed about 5 cars worth of junk parts. I suspect that there’s much more buried on the property under all the dead leaves.

I cannot tell you how much I despise people who use their land as an open landfill.

However, the cinder blocks will work well for the raised beds in the garden, so I suppose that’s a plus.

No one ever said the earth would end with a bang. Everyone knows it’s a whimper. And that takes a long, long time.

“The one thing I notice more and more of in the roads these days is straight up anger and road rage. Folks literally are becoming unhinged.
Nobody gives a rip anymore about others. Common courtesy is out the window.”

This happened long before covid. 6 years ago I gave up driving small cars and convertibles because of too many idiots that dont care about killing you. Only would get on the road in a huge truck these days.

Personally, I blame smartphones for nearly everything we see today. People are “always on” and in a rush. Yet more and more disconnected from actual humans/reality and living life through a social media filter

It took a generation to bring it this far and we are stuck with these liberal mindsets. Even if we could start re-teaching American values, it would take a supreme effort for another generation to repair what was done.

Since we can't start last year - we need to start now - or as soon as possible. There isn't really a choice - we either start reversing the damage or the left keeps making things worse.

metmom :" This whole situation is wearing thin, but prepping for the long haul does mean things will be unsettled for a long time.
It sounds like she was more prepared physically than mentally.
You need to prep for both."

Exactly true - prepare yourself and your family both physically and mentally.
Prepping is a life-style ; It is nothing that you can turn on, and then turn off.
It is more than a learned habit, and it relies on history, and is, in fact, a process of "risk assessment".

My Irish ancestors suffered through " An Gorta More" (the Irish Potato Famine, a period of mass starvation and disease in Ireland from 1845 to 1852).
The famine was caused by mono culture of a particular potato that was favored by the British, but was killed off by an early blight
that killed off the plants and the potato in the ground as rendered as useless, undesirable, and unpalatable.
Because it was a blight, it spread throughout the soil and the land, and led to forced migration of millions of Irish.
Now, horticulturists discourage monoculture of crops, and now favor diversity and crop interplanting, crop rotation, and crop succession .

'True Preppers' are specialists at risk assessment, and determine priorities as well as honest evaluation of assets, and where there are shortfalls.
The shortfalls are those areas that require your immediate attention so that you and your family can be successful based upon adverse probability, and then possibility.
It is a spiritual and a temporal mind-set :" If ye are prepared, ..ye shall not fear".
Risk assessment is only a part of the mindset (!), but it is a learned mindset.

This has been a stressful year with all that has gone on.

But on the bright side I got 3 new guns and every evening there are small herds of nice bucks feeding and making scrapes by my pond behind the house.

The new Winchester 350 Legend is printing 1/2” groups at 100 yds, and a couple of those bucks are going in the freezer in a few weeks.
