I didn't know there's a word for it, but google defines glossolalia as:
"the phenomenon of (apparently) speaking in an unknown language, especially in religious worship. It is practiced especially by Pentecostal and charismatic Christians."
I have a feeling that the Democrats aren't fighting back as hard as I expected on the potential ACB nomination.
They have a plan to destroy her, and maybe glossolalia (aka speaking in tongues) will be their means of attack.
I can see Kamala asking her, "Do you believe that you have the Gift of Tongues?"
and it’ll be all downhill from here
There was once a very strong movement of people that referred to themselves as Charismatic. That term isnt used quite as often as it was a few decades ago. One thing about charismatic believers is that most using the label were in an independent non-denominational church.
Doctrinally, the charismatic, Pentecostal, Church of God and Assemblies of God are pretty much the same thing. The charismatic churches had a lot less tradition and opted in most cases for more upbeat music. As the years have passed, the denominations I mentioned have incorporated a lot of the charismatic worship styles into their services, but a lot of the traditional things still exist. The movement has been going strong since about 1915, due to the Azusa Street Revival.
Among other things, I teach Biblical Greek—and also appreciate that things had already been rolling on the Protestant side for just over 50 years before the Catholic side got rolling. Mom’s best friend growing up was the daughter of an Assemblies of God preacher.
That aside, your comment does really help to flesh out context for this thread.
“If you had posted your facts and information first off in your article, and not in the thread, then so many people wouldnt be so confused.”
Thanks. Yes I should have. My bad. I’ll do better in the future.
But I must say that a lot of people on here just comment without knowing anything. It’s disheartening.
When I’m ‘confused’, I usually do my homework before calling people names.
whats next, saying shes a member of Opus Dei
That is brand new democrat nonsense-and the TV series is a whole different re-telling of the book-I only watched it once to see that-never watched again. I read The Handmaid’s Tale, and saw the movie when it came out, too-it appeared to be based on the practices of the more extreme Pentecostal sects combined with the practices of that break-away Mormon sect-FLDS-extreme control by men, polygamy, etc-and “coincidentally”, there was a big scandal about the FLDS that came out just before the book...
Yes, I believe Democrats speak in glossialia.
Right. I thought this thread was going to be about Biden.
With the gifts of tongues everyone at Pentecost hears the preaching I their own language. After Pentecost anyone speaking on to irs was tonja e an interpreter.
Is that the speaking in tongues you are referring to?
“This thread needs a mute button and a moot button.”
Post of the year.
Wow! That is rather a broad scope.
Biden speaks in tongues non-stop.
You never know what the Democrats will come up with.
After all, Kavanaugh had been vetted and confirmed as a federal judge previously, without all the Christine Ford and rape room and beer drinking nonsense having come up. So don’t put it past Democrats to bring up things that they didn’t bring up before.
They think they are. Bless their hearts.
I’ve never seen the show - never will. But the attack has started. More articles from the past few days:

In one way you’re right, but in another way you’re wrong.
Going in the religion direction can only hurt the left, which us where I gather this was all supposed to go.
It looks like she has decided prudent silence is wise.
Okay pal, nice retort.

Ive attended events for charismatic Catholics. Yes they do speak or sing in tongues. I understand there are two types of speaking in tongues. The first, like at Pentecost, where people were heard to speak other languages, is very rare. The more common kind is a gift of joy that seems to me very similar to scat singing in jazz. It is the gift of being relaxed enough to pray wordlessly, like a happily babbling toddler. (Think of the Scripture about becoming like little children to enter the Kingdom of God.). People who do this are no crazier than Mel Torme or Ella Fitzgerald.
If ABC has indeed spoken in tongues, it is a private matter, I suppose, but I assure you she has thousands of Catholic companions in that experience.
I’m a believer. I’ve heard Catholic “charismatics” when they think they’re speaking in tongues. It’s just gobble gobble. God’s gifts don’t turn up on our timetable.
