Democrats in Virginia may override local zoning to bring high-density housing, including public housing, to every neighborhood statewide — whether residents want it or not.
The measure could quickly transform the suburban lifestyle enjoyed by millions, permitting duplexes to be built on suburban lots in neighborhoods previously consisting of quiet streets and open green spaces. Proponents of “upzoning” say the changes are necessary because suburbs are bastions of segregation and elitism, as well as bad for the environment.
The move, which aims to provide “affordable housing,” might be fiercely opposed by local officials throughout the state, who have deliberately created and preserved neighborhoods with particular character — some dense and walkable, others semi-rural and private — to accommodate people’s various preferences.
But Democrats tout a state-level law’s ability to replace “not in my backyard” with “yes, in your backyard.”
House Delegate Ibraheem Samirah, a Democrat, introduced six housing measures Dec. 19, coinciding with Democrats’ takeover of the state legislature in November.
“Single-family housing zones would become two-zoned,” Samirah told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Areas that would be impacted most would be the suburbs that have not done their part in helping out.”
“The real issues are the areas in between very dense areas which are single-family zoned. Those are the areas that the state is having significant trouble dealing with. They’re living in a bubble,” he said.
He said suburbs were “mostly white and wealthy”

It’s time to eliminate those seeking diversity. Diversity for diversity sake is evil and must not be tolerated.
There can be no co existence.
bkmk
They foul their nest and then move on to foul someone elses.
North Carolina is almost at the tipping point too.
“Crime is lower and the public schools are better.”
...and we want to keep it that way. May you soon be surrounded by Sec. 8’s.
???Enviormental impact via multi family units?? I keep questioning how will the sewer system support them? Seems like a lot of crap to me.
The poor are coming your way whether you want them or not. MS13 is going suburban. They can't afford most of DC any longer.
You can plan for them, or you can live with illegal rentals. Your choice.
Your apparent assumption is that you can continue to hide behind exclusionary zoning and the poor will magically become someone else's problem. Ain't gonna work that way no more. We're pricing them out of DC. The free market will drive them your way.
Democrats Seek To Outlaw Suburban, Single-Family House Zoning, Calling It Racist And Bad For Environment
More of the plantation mentality from the dumos.
You can have a house but you’ll have to have 10 families living in it
“get out now if you can.”
No. We cannot keep pissing our pants and running away. And the People of Virginia are not. What is the gun sanctuary county count now?
Either man up for violence or get on the cattle car. The only thing that will make the left scurry back under their rocks is fear. Fear of us.
Reminds me of “Doctor Zhivago” where the family home is taken over. “This is better, Much more fair.”
The Northern Virginian mini-mensch owners who built this government are getting what the deserve.
So their solution is to segregate themselves from suburban and rural people.
It wasn’t just the voting machines. It was the demographics. Northern Virginia has been invaded, and Grant had nothing to do with it.
If at first you don’t secede...?
Too funny, that was exactly what I was thinking.
If they think Americans are going to submit to this they ar nuts.
I stand corrected. Well said.
We have this going on in California. Here in my neighborhood, formerly single-family residences up to two floors, our city council rezoned most neighborhoods to multi-family mixed residential and commercial and multi-story. Developers came in, and fighting ensued between neighborhood residents and city leaders.
One mixed-use tower building was proposed with a height of 15 stories a few blocks away, and the city negotiated to reduce the height to 8 stories because of residents complaining (which was still too high). A new California law says the state can step in and force the building to be 15 stories because of lack of housing. The city council approved the 8-story height because they didn't want to have the state intervene when the new law takes effect January 1st. A lesser poison.
Now there are several other high-story projects proposed in the neighborhood, to be developed after January 1st, 2020. Bad for existing residents!
So, let me dissect this.
DemocRATs enact policies to keep primarily minority people in crowded, filthy neighbors. As a result, these minorities are poor and suffer disproportionately from high crime, pollution, and the other ills of urban areas. DemocRATs mostly have not aimed those policies at white people, with the result that they have better standards of living, better jobs, etc. So the DemocRATs, having decided that it is racist for people not mired in their policies to have better lifestyles, are trying to force the middle class into the same crowded, vermin-infested, filthy, crime-ridden conditions that their supporters live in.
No, thanks.
One component of the dysfunction in city neighborhoods is the crowding: the mouse utopia experiments demonstrated that quite clearly. They should be studied, not as a how-to, but as a cautionary lesson for leftist ideology.
That’s what we need! A Cabrini Green in every county!
