Tuesday on MSNBCs Hardball, host Chris Matthews offered his take on the Democratic Partys drift to the far-left, which he warned could have an impact on the 2020 presidential election.
Matthews reminded voters of the 1972 presidential election between incumbent President Richard Nixon and then-Democratic presidential nominee Sen. George McGovern (D-SD). Nixon won in a landslide, taking 49 states and 60% of the popular vote.
He suggested such a scenario could be possible in 2020 if Democrats nominated a far-left candidate to go up against President Donald Trump in 2020.

Whats hard is to identify a leading candidate that is resisting the move to the left, Matthews continued. Very hard because all seem determined to hold their own among those young, strongly progressive, often minority voters expected to make up the voting base in the early states. I have a strong memory of how this pattern of Democratic Party behavior worked out the last time the party went hard to the left. It was 1972. George McGovern was the chosen nominee. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The convention was giddy with excitement even if not that well organized. I was there watching the Massachusetts delegation actually dancing in a circle. They were so happy. The Democrats lost 49 states that year to Richard Nixon who not only carried the Electoral College, losing only Massachusetts and D.C. but 60 percent of the popular vote.

But they won’t listen.
Me to.
You are correct. Without the LORD saying: “No not right now America is not going in the total toilet. I need Trump to do a few things for me; like put the embassy in Jerusalem; support Israel for the Golan as their property; and other stuff. Nope, right now I will allow America to float. BUT, the time is coming shortly when I will bring home My remnant church and America will go into bankruptcy, and because the rest of the world’s financial matters is tied to America, then the WORLD goes bankrupt!!!” Myself, I firmly believe the Harpazo draws near. When that happens most think about 10% of true blood purchased believers in Jesus Christ, His death, burial and resurrection by the finished work of the Cross on Calvary, plus all children under the age of knowledge, will go in the Harpazo, and this nation will go bonkers, and the world will go bonkers, because EVERY child under the age of knowledge will also go, even the Hindu’s, muzzie’s, Chinese kids, all of them around the world will suddenly disappear in the Harpazo, and that is the end of life as humans know it on earth, and the Tribulation is right around the bend for those left upon this sin filled, filthy filled world. If you don’t know Him, you are running out of time. The end is very close. All the things predicted in the prophecies of the Bible are converging right now. Everything prophesied by the Bible is coming together in these last days. Seek Him now folks if you don’t know Him. Go read 1 Corinthians 15, verses 1 thru 4. Those are the words of the Gospel of Grace. We will all be judged by Paul’s Gospel. I didn’t say it, God did, in His Book, The Holy Bible.
Which is why I think Matthews is wrong. Trump is likely to win but not like Nixon over McGovern. Socialists and illegal votes will see to it.
A lot has changed since then. The old school Democrats who voted for Nixon or Reagan have long since died or become Republicans. Democrats have a secure grasp on enough states that they won't be shut out as badly as McGovern or Mondale were.
Bloomberg badly wants to be President, and going down in history as taking out Trump is the icing on the cake.
I think these democrats have 2024 in mind, more that 2020. If their plans work out, immigrants will completely control the election.
‘and watching the Colorado EC voters have to vote for him even though the state likely wont vote for him will be fun to watch...’
you are aware, I’m sure, that if Trump wins the popular vote in CO in 2020, the electors will be bound to vote for him in the winner take all state...
‘They can run the kookiest left-wing nut they can dig up in 2020, and theyre still winning CA, OR, WA, NY, MA, CT, MD, etc.’
in reality, they are likely poised at this very point to claim 244 EV’s, the ‘pubs 248, with 46 up for grabs...
‘But who would have thought a republican would ever win Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, or Michigan again?’
dems only need to reclaim PA and MI and Trump will need faithless electors to win...
Dad said that Nixon was an underrated president. I read his autobiography and he did some good things, but he did some dumb things. Watergate was a coup...if they had the net (and FR) back then, who knows Comments
Shhhh.

Above is Nixon speaking to students at Oxford, England after he was president. Amazing. He gives a thank you and some nice remarks, then just dives in to answering questions for the next 70 minutes. Most of it done with rowdy and loud protestors outside - although Nixon never skipped a beat when speaking.
“And I want to thank Student President James for that nice introduction, and to all of you for inviting me here. And even the folks outside - they are making me feel right at home!”
He makes an interesting observation at the end when he thanks them again, and says that one day America will have a president that attended Oxford - “Maybe even one of you!”
I think Nixon is just REALLY smart - or perhaps he had the “world plan of the Freemasons” in his back pocket where Bill Clinton was already mandated to be placed into the office. ;)
I should look into the dates more and see where Clinton was on his career path. Nixon was a political hound and would have been able to match up in advance who would be a likely candidate someday based on projected demographics.
With millions of votes already illegally cast in 2016 think of how horrible the fraud is going to be by 2020. We may have ballots in Spanish and have to ask for the officials to reach for a dusty box of ballots in English so we can understand them in our own country.
You may end up being right.
Hillary will heroically say “I will take upon myself the mantle of leadership that the American people have demanded of me. I will be president.”
So he stopped drinking long enough to see reality. OK. Good for him. Now watch him go back to his usual leftist idiocies.
I remember two slogans. First, I had a “Nixon’s the one” bumper sticker but never put it on my car.
Second was sarcasm from the other side. It was a nice limerick:
“Don’t change Dicks in the middle of a screw. Vote for Nixon in ‘72.”
That second one is funny. Clever. Back then, I expect I wouldn’t have understood the “Dick” or “screw” parts, having just left seminary, and a parsonage 18 years before that. Too sheltered.
