Breaux Bridge student hospitalized Wednesday; her parents speak out

Mothers of autistic children are speaking out after we reported on an investigation into an incident involving a student defending her autistic friend at Breaux Bridge High School last week.

Reagan Boudreaux was defending her friend Arron when she was allegedly punched in the face by a football player at Breaux Bridge High School. The St. Martin Parish School Board as well as the Sheriff’s Department is actively investigating the case, but have yet to release any official statement.

From the article:

Reagan is considered a hero by many for what she did that day.

I strongly agree.

I worked briefly as a teacher and longer as a substitute teacher in the Acadiana area (St. Martin, Lafayette, Iberia, Vermilion Parishes)

From what I am reading and seeing, I do not want to be a techer in this area as the school administrators put too much pressure on teachers to maintain order.

Bringing a gun to school has happened multiple times AND only detected by other students reporting this.

A University professor in Education (who is also a Middle School) told me: Thank God for Mississippi. Otherwise, Louisiana would be last in quality of education.

In other words, Louisiana is 49th out of 50 states.

And now we have Democratic governor.

Many of these kids are the eternal optimists.

They are aware of their shortcomings, and yet some of them have amazing abilities.

I have always thought that if we didn’t invent computers, some of these people could have been useful on the ground and in space, as a human computer for navigation and other things.

I know of a guy that could draw any spot on earth (map), with a great degree of accuracy. He probably couldn’t do streets, but he could certainly draw maps of states, oceans, and nations.

There are bad egg students, and there are angels there too.

We get down on our youth, but there are some great kids out there if you know where to look.

The movie Rain Man is based on fact. The actual person had an unusual disability.

The sad thing is the low quality of public education and what happened at Breaux Bridge HS may not be isolated.

Louisiana may have an arrest in this case tomorrow.

And I hope it is not a black person responsible. Race relations in Louisiana are getting really bad -- thinks to our IDIOT media like ABC/CBS/NBC and the Fake News Network of CNN...

Topher, don’t leave out the man that set back race relations by 125 years.

I understand where you are coming from.

I favor sending these kids to regular high-schools.

It allows them to participate in life. As long as they can function quietly, and do the work, they belong there just like anyone else.

You know, I think our nation would benefit immensely from a mandatory two years in the armed services. Beat the attitude out of them, and then send them back to society squared away.

If they continue on with the bad attitude, keep adding a year on until they grasp what life is all about.

Mainstreaming “Retards” into the schools is a failed Liberal agenda.

Are you referring to former President Obama-mess?

These kids attend regular high schools.

The problem is the quality of education in Louisiana.

Former Governor Bobby Jindal improved things overall in Louisiana government, but his last year in office he spent campaigning for president and abandoned Louisiana.

If one could send such students to private schools like one of the Catholic or other quality Christian schools, these students could do better...

I don’t disagree with that. I will say some of them would simply refuse to take advantage of the opportunity though.

Yes, Obama.

I don’t disagree with the quality of the schools. I do know I wanted to to know how to read. By the third grade I was reading any book I wanted, at the adult level if I wanted.

I didn’t have exceptional teachers. I looked up words I didn’t know. It didn’t take long, and I knew them the second or third time, and I was off.

It was easy for me to conceptualize thoughts.

You see, I think that if you want to learn, you’ll learn.

Many of these kids going to the schools are more interested in looking tough than looking smart.

In the fourth grade I had this girl I really liked. She was a whiz at math. Our teacher would put us up in front of the class and have duels. I got to where I could beat her.

I did attend a school with about 20 students from grades 1 through 8.

She was punched in the face by a football player. Does that seem somehow ludicrous?

High School pecking order:

1) Football players (Brahmins)
2) Other male sports players
3) Cheerleaders
4) Female sports players
5) Band
6) Almost everyone else
7) Special Ed/special needs (Untouchables)

No. It sounds like a football player. Her father and a baseball bat should set things straight.

I used to like football. Even back in high school when I couldn’t understand jocks and their behavior ( :-) ), I could appreciate the talent it takes to play and excel at that sport. I was always asked to join the team, but I preferred enjoying my time away from school as much as possible. Plus I lack the coordination to do anything outside of walking (maybe running if I’m having a good day :-)).

These days, any time I see the word “football”, I want to projectile vomit and/or hulk smash things.

Back in the early 90s, a football player *might* get away with avoiding an underage drinking citation ONCE where I lived. There were no second times as far as I knew.

These days, these idiots are pretty much immune to discipline unless the borderline retarded coach (that’s sadly trying to recapture his youth) yells at them.

It’s only football too ... In some instances a basketball player might be immune, but the entire football team seems to get away with murder anymore.

I hope the sport is brought back down to earth. As I said, I don’t hate the game ... I hate what it’s become.

I never much cared for football. I have always liked baseball but not the professional level except for minor league ball. I love that and I can afford to go sit in the bleachers and watch a game.

I have come to believe that the local radio stations all provide employment for certain handicapped individuals. I think it is an employment requirement that an announcer or someone who voices ads must have a speech defect. Each has different words he cannot pronounce or certain sounds that he can’t make. One I hear stutters a bit. Or maybe they just don[t pay them anything.

Our TV stations locally mispell words, play the wrong video, and, in general, make all sorts of mistakes.

One here which is otherwise the best talk station will run two or even three ads at the same time. They sell more ads than they have time for so they solve it that way. It is annoying.
