A decade ago, The Times urged the Senate to confirm John Roberts to the U.S. Supreme Court even though he was a conservative judge nominated by a conservative president and was likely to pull the court to the right for decades to come. We backed him, despite our disagreements with his judicial philosophy, because we believe that presidents Democrats and Republicans alike are entitled to significant deference when they nominate justices to the high court, so long as the nominees are well qualified and scandal-free, respect precedent and fall within the broad mainstream of judicial thinking.
Under normal circumstances, that same reasoning would lead us to support the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch. Like Roberts, he is conservative but competent, with more than a decade of experience on the appellate bench and a well qualified rating from the American Bar Assn.
But these are not normal times.
Not after the outrageous obstruction of Judge Merrick Garlands nomination for 10 full months by Senate Republicans. That debacle began in March 2016, when President Obama nominated Garland, a moderate and well-respected appeals court judge, to fill the seat on the court that had become vacant with the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Instead of doing what the Constitution requires and offering their advice and, if merited, their consent, Senate Republicans refused even to engage in the process. They denied Garland a confirmation hearing and in many cases wouldnt even meet with him on the hastily fabricated pretext that a president in his final year of office shouldnt be allowed to name a new justice because
well, it was never really clear what the supposed principle was behind this self-serving position.

Trump put out a list of 21 names of people he would consider for nomination to SCOTUS. Hillary could have done the same, and certainly Hillary could have critiqued the 21 names Trump did name - or at least one of them. This past election was, in no small part, about those names on that list. As opposed to what the electorate believed Hillary would have put on SCOTUS. Hillary and the Democrats were supremely confident of victory.
The states, via the Electoral College, chose Trump and his very public list . . . and Them - as comedian Jimmy Durante used to put it - is the conditions that prevail."
Even though, frankly, I prefer wine if I am going to have something on the tipsy side. Beer never much appealed to me, but neither has coffee.
But LGWT wouldn’t make as much sense. Make mine a root beer. I gladly raise one to Donald Trump, liberty, and guns.
Exactly, since Scalia’s life along with his SC seat were both stolen by the left, they can shove their non support where it will hurt them most.
....liberty guns beer Trump...
That’s like the folks saying ATF should be convenience stores.
I am sure you are not alone in your thinking.
Boo hoo. Maybe if the justices appointed by Democrats didn’t vote for their Leftist ideology 100% of the time, Republicans would be more accommodating. They’ve learned the hard way.
Bill Clinton exits the presidency. Hillary wants in on her many schemes. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, senator of New York. He allegedly comes down with acute appendicitis, and, what do you know.....he dies. These days only 1 in 10,000 people die of acute appendicitis. This is a completely different disease than a ruptured appendix.
. Think of it. A sitting senator, from New York no less, dies after entering the hospital with acute appendicitis. Hilary now has a clear shot to a senatorship.
Antonine Scalia goes quail hunting and is found in his room, face up, with a pillow on his face, dead. Now Obama gets to appoint another hyper liberal appointee to SCOTUS. Hillary is expected, by alleged polling to win the presidency. She would have no supreme court resistance toward her end.
Is she capable of these acts, implied.
Interesting. Now add in JFK, Jr, his hinting of running for that NY Senate seat, then his unexpected death by plane crash. It left a wide open field for Killery.
I think I’ve reached the point where I would not be averse to letting CA, OR, WA and any other state secede. I am that sick of them. But I hate to give them anything other than a one way ticket to the Mid-Atlantic ocean.
They will have to change their rag's name to "Los Tiempos".

Have you seen You Tube tonight? Last night the body of Vince Foster was exhumed and reautopsied. The cause of death changed from suicide to homocide. He had 2 holes in the back of his head.....either one being instantly a kill. How could the second shot be fired? Comey was called to White House and Trump fired the director of pathology. I wonder if this is going to break wide open.
Because, Moron Board... (are you ready for it?) It would have been unprecedented! Actually
fake news
The hard way?
Two gays on the Supreme Court?
