Gingrich blasts Trump's 'very self-destructive' behavior
Politico ^ | August 3, 2016 | Nick Gass

Posted on 08/03/2016 7:50:54 AM PDT by Pinkbell

Donald Trump's behavior over the last week has been "very self-destructive" to his campaign, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday, comparing the Republican nominee to a Hall of Fame quarterback who is in the midst of an interception-throwing slump.

"Trump is still behaving like as though it was the primaries and there were 17 candidates. He has not made the transition to being the potential president of the United States, which is a much tougher league," Gingrich said in an interview with Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria." "People are going to watch you every single day. They’re going to take everything they can out of context, and he is not yet performing at the level that you need to."

Gingrich remarked that Trump's performance recalled quarterback Joe Montana's "stretch during his career where he kept throwing interceptions; and for about half a season, it looked like he wasn’t Joe Montana anymore."

"And then he figured out what he was doing, and he changed. Trump, Trump is in that kind of a slump," said Gingrich, a Trump supporter who was under final consideration for the vice presidential slot before Indiana Gov. Mike Pence was chosen.

"It’s like watching a team go out on the field, throw an interception on the first play and go back off the field again," Gingrich continued, alluding to a host of recent comments and battles Trump has waged over the course of the last week, including sparring with the family of a fallen U.S. Army captain who spoke out against him at the Democratic convention, refusing to back prominent Republicans like Paul Ryan, John McCain and Kelly Ayotte in their elections, joking about tossing a baby out of his rally on Tuesday and generally responding to any personal attack against him."

Fireman15: standing O for your #89, great job!!

Brilliant, you say:
One of the main reasons I will not be voting for Trump even if he’s nominated is that I don’t think he’s a Republican.

That would make sense as a stand-alone, however, in context it doesn't fit logically. In a very real sense, not voting for Trump is a vote for his opponent, Hillary, and you will personally own the results; i.e., there is no middle ground.

How do you define Hillary?

With all we know about each do you actually believe she offers you, indeed the nation, a better choice?

No way. Trump is just thinking 10 moves ahead of Gingrich and the rest. I'm tired of the second guessing of Gingrich. He's not helping Trump. Glad he wasn't selected as VP.

Let Trump be Trump. Nobody has shown this much mastery of politics before.

Just watch how this all of this unfolds and you'll see.

That was 4 months ago, and I have since decided to vote for Trump because Hillary is the alternative. However, I don’t think it’s going to make a difference. There are too many who made the same vow who are not on board with Trump. I have voted straight Republican in every election since 1980, and I know a lot of Republicans. I also know that a lot of them have told me they won’t be voting Republican this year, though. I don’t think you can blame that on the GOPe.

Yeah, I can blame that on the GOPe. The same GOP that’s been backstabbing the base for years. Trump is a product of their betrayal.

Your buds won’t vote for Trump? How did they like McCain and Romney? Such a level of selfishness I cannot comprehend.

Tell them to enjoy the Killary years; they are asking for it.

Believe me, they blame you just as much as you blame them. But now it appears that even key Trump supporters like Gingrich are calling out Trump, so their case against you is looking stronger.

Oh B. S.

Trump is fine.

It’s the knee knocking class, Newt, Rriebus, and Ryan that need to consoling.

Well said, the media pile on has them cowering instead of standing up for Trump - very sad.

How about we trust Trump’s family and chosen running mate to “keep Trump in line” as they see fit. If he’s going to take advice from someone, it will be them, not some has been ex-politician or flip flop politician or some talking heads or some spineless, back stabbing GOPers.

It was to be expected. They would rather have Mrs. Clinton win anyway.

All three have made more negative comments about Trump in the last year, than they have about Obama in eight.

Fine. I’ll remember when they (the GOPe) foist their next looser candidate of the McCain and Romney mold.

Maybe if the GOPe was interesting in winning instead of bitching about the candidate the voters chose, or how about not running their mouths every chance they get to amplify the MSM talking points.

Enjoy the Killary years. I’m sure they will be much better than the Trump years. (/s, just in case)

Boy Gingrich is really bitter about not getting the VP spot.

If he keeps this up he is going to lose his chance at the Chief of Staff spot.

I agree with you 100% that the Democrats will always circle their wagons.

That is because the MSM doesn't attack the dems

If they treated the dems like they do the GOP there wouldn't be any circling the wagons

Excellent! Short and on point; this is what’s it all about. The media is too powerful and it’s only going to be we the people to take them on by wining with Trump.
