Donald Trump may be the only Republican presidential candidate who can realistically hit the magic 1,237 number for the majority of delegates, but according to a senior Republican National Committee official that does not mean he will become the GOP presidential nominee.
"Even if Trump reaches the magic number of 1,237 the media and RNC are touting, that does not mean Trump is automatically the nominee," Haugland said. "The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor."

Most organizations have rules that might be INTERPRETED to conflict with other rules. That’s why it’s normal for all organizations to have a rules committee.
Political parties are the last stronghold of state sovereignty. No national convention, especially this one, is going to have a majority of delegates vote in favor of neutering state party rules.
Cruz and Kasich know they are positioning themselves for four and eight years from now.
They don’t get that the great fleecing is over..
Rope. Curly Haugland. Some assembly required.
Trump as the republican nominee will end up with Democratic control of the WH, possible the Senate as well. Goodbye Supreme Court, the left now owns thee....
I know it hurts, but the neo-cons are dead.
For those who have fought, for those have seen friends die for no reason whatsoever, for those who have children who are on the front lines of tomorrows "wars", these are the patriots who applaud the America first stance.
There are many things worth fighting and dying for. The Washington cartel isn't one of them.
Their way of thinking about so many issues has failed. The old Gop has been destroyed. Let’s make sure those type’s never have the power again. Frauds.
A comment quite obviously coming from a “normal” third grader.
“Trump as the republican nominee will end up with Democratic control of the WH”
Who would you rather see get the nomination?
You mean GOPi as in GOP Irrelevant, right?
These guys making these “technical arguments” really demonstrate the big problem with GOP. They don’t understand the emotional components involved. They think that they can through some underhanded set of events in Cleveland that they can deny Trump even if he reaches the 1237. Anyone who embraces that idea might as well just give up now because the results of such a brazen usurping of the will of the people will absolutely destroy the GOP. It will be deader than dead.
While I understand some of the angst against Trump though I believe it is largely misplaced I can’t understand outside of desire of control why some hate Trump so. He’s on the verge of making GOP primary history and will have garnered more votes in a primary than anyone else ever. He’s clearly bringing people into the party and generating great enthusiasm. Right now Trump has won the nomination in all but a few very bitter unrealistic people who would rather burn the party to the ground than rally behind an out of the box America first candidate like Trump.
I think an alternate delegate without such delusional behavior will take his seat whilst he is escorts to the newly opened Donald J Trump retreat for the Criminally Insane, where Haugland can get proper.medication
Do what? Ignore the preposterous inflammatory headline, all the guy said was that the numbers we hear presently are estimates/projections. And they are, people have different numbers. This is the media trying to stir up (crap), non-story.
This Curly Haugland keeps burping up like a bad pepperoni pizza!
This is old news about a jackass braying like this was a normal election cycle. Noting to see here folks move along.
Ok, challenge accepted!
This guy is the embodiment of why the electorate hates the political class of both parties.
Trump is the cure.
Cantorize Paul Ryan in the Wisconsin primary!
Then simply, they won’t matter..
