RNC official: Donald hitting 1,237 won't matter
CNBC ^ | 4/28/2016 | Lori Ann LaRocco

Donald Trump may be the only Republican presidential candidate who can realistically hit the magic 1,237 number for the majority of delegates, but according to a senior Republican National Committee official that does not mean he will become the GOP presidential nominee.

"Even if Trump reaches the magic number of 1,237 the media and RNC are touting, that does not mean Trump is automatically the nominee," Haugland said. "The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor."

This is a recycle. It was the media’s attempt to keep stirring the pot.

Haugland is only saying that the delegates have to formally vote at the convention before we truly officially have a nominee. That’s all.

It’s another attempt to manipulate by the MSM.

Good to have ‘em come out of hiding so we know what we’re dealing with. Have they got a surprise coming for them.

So... a candidate who does not reach 1237 is not the nominee, but one who does reach 1237 is not the nominee ?

It don't matter to me
how your vote was casted
[grammar police: poetic license]
It just matters to me
what the GOPe wanted

Nice to hear the party is contemplating suicide.

If Trump goes well over the 1,237 pledged delegates from the Primaries, and at this point it is very likely that he will, then those who are pledged on the 1st vote to vote for their candidate will put him over the top.

Especially ow that CNN is showing Trump with 52 total delegates likely in PA (and it is likely that that number will go higher, probably over 60 before all is said and done and once they vote at the convention):

http://edition.cnn.com/election/primaries/states/pa/Rep

Current delegate count according to them, and I have found them to be fairly accurate is:

Trump: 991
Cruz: 568
Kasich: 154

http://edition.cnn.com/election/

I expect Trump will go well over the top (probably by 50 or more delegates at this point), on June 7th.

If Cruz is interested in the GOP nominee (without any “e”) winning in November, then he needs to concede next week after Trump (in all likelihood) takes Indiana.

I pray to God that is what he will do. He has the power to:

1) Unite the party by so doing.
2) Deliver a huge blow to the GOPe by so doing.
3) Set up for a big GOP November win.

My Open Letter to Ted Cruz

I say all of this as one who has diligently supported Cruz...but recognizes the truth of the situation and the absolute need to defeeat the Dems in November.

Various forms of this article have been posted for the past several days. (Note different title so it not a double post but the articles all sources this same guy.)

In short: He is talking through his hat. He doesn’t understand the process and yes, the delegates ARE LEGALLY BOUND to vote for Trump on the first ballot and the 1237 number does matter.

Agreed.

Has this ever been brought up in past Presidential Primary processes ?

If they stop Trump—after he wins—it will be the end of the GOP. Trump will run independent and win. Maybe a new party is needed to replace the GOPe—The Liberty Party! The Republicans are not that stupid. Self Preservation is part of the life of any party.

This is nothing but FUD. Trump will win on the first ballot. Trump has a 400+ delegate lead and that will only widen further between now and the convention.

Anybody harboring the fantasy that Trump will finish the primary season just short of 1,237 and will not be able to make a deal for the delegates he needs by the convention are delusional.
