The Marco Rubio campaign is livid Thursday after the Ted Cruz campaign released a website that includes a photoshopped image of their candidate shaking hands with President Barack Obama.
Cruz’s website “The Real Rubio Record” ironically features a very unreal image of Rubio smiling ecstatically while shaking Obama’s hand. “The Rubio-Obama Trade Pact” the text ominously reads, a reference to Rubio’s support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Cruz website also features a photoshopped image of Rubio smiling while leaning on a business sign reading “Closed.”
Among the red flags that the image is fake… who shakes with their left hand? Certainly not the right-handed Rubio.
The Rubio campaign was predictably less than amused. “This is how phony and deceitful the Cruz campaign has become,” Rubio advisor Todd Harris told a gaggle of reporters in South Carolina, while holding up the image in question.
The pushback comes after Cruz faced criticism for what his opponents termed “dirty tricks” in Iowa. In particular, Cruz was criticized for pointing out an official-looking flyer telling voters they faced a “voter violation” unless they voted for him, and for telling supporters to spread a rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race.
UPDATE (11:13 AM): The Cruz campaign doubled down, telling CNN that they believe the image is authentic.

Nope. You were a fool long before this campaign.
Sorry, Rubio is shaking with his right hand. I am certainly no supporter of Rubio, Trump all the way, but that statement is an out-an-out lie. Not sure about the, rest of the article because I stopped reading right there.
Mara just said this is small potatoes compared to past South Carolina races.
However, if someone photoshopped my likeness to smear me, I'd be very very very pissed off. Can't stand Rubio - but that picture - is a lie. The clear implicit message is that 'this took place'. The clear implicit message is NOT 'hey this is a cartoon-ish statement saying that Rubio and Obama like each other and are hence like each other.'
It's below the ethical standard Cruz projects, and I call it a lie.
Cruz seems to be proving the points his 'liar' detractors are making about him.
I wonder what he will do about it. I really do not want to have confirmed what this image suggests, that Cruz is snake-ish and sneaky, something that he purports not to be.
So Ted’s lying, misrepresenting and gutter status quo politics gets a pass from you?? You think it is great?
Everyone expected Trump to be Trump, but we shouldn’t have expected Ted to be “the only principled candidate in the race”??
Actually, I agree with another poster on another thread. I don’t think it’s Cruz but his media team that is responsible for this, and these videos and even statements have been consistently bad. I don’t know who is on his team, but he should dump them. They’re doing him no favors.
I like Rubio but I also like Cruz and I’d vote for either one of them, but Cruz is confusing a lot of people with this. Can’t he control his staff?
If you watch the video, you will see that the point is made that Rubio had the same talking points as Obama on immigration. It is a GREAT video. He “joined hands” with the Obama administration is a figurative concept in this context and it is perfectly legit to photoshop a graphic for a figurative point. The back and forth video between Obama and Rubio is genuine and THEY ARE SAYING EXACTLY THE SAME THING. So why is the complaint not that the point was wrong? Why not complain that the video back and forth of Obama and Rubio saying the exact same thing on immigration is wrong? Why? Because it isn’t wrong.
That cannot be. Cruz’s mission to is to reveal to the nation the face of God. Which means that Cruz has to be perfect. And perfect people don’t sin.
You can’t help yourself......You are a loser. I have said that for years. Finally you have come to accept it. So if you don’t like it, leave me alone. I am sick of you posting to me anyway. You are quite a bit of a stalker.
I’ll say it again, if Cruz doesn’t ditch that manager of his immediately, the conclusion must be that he is of the same ilk as Ratfink Roe.
gee you mean its obvoulsy not a real photo but a visual image to convey a message.. what a new concept its so novel I am sure it has never been done before
or maybe not...

A quick search of their posting history confirms your assertion. At this point, you could make a Trump-like fortune simply betting against anything they say...
I think photoshopping a handshake crosses the line.
Nope. It starts the conversation about what Rubio really believes.
Something isn’t right in Cruz.
Very true.
But Trump putting up a picture of Jeb picking his nose is fine and dandy.
Perspective.
