The Marco Rubio campaign is livid Thursday after the Ted Cruz campaign released a website that includes a photoshopped image of their candidate shaking hands with President Barack Obama.
Cruz’s website “The Real Rubio Record” ironically features a very unreal image of Rubio smiling ecstatically while shaking Obama’s hand. “The Rubio-Obama Trade Pact” the text ominously reads, a reference to Rubio’s support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Cruz website also features a photoshopped image of Rubio smiling while leaning on a business sign reading “Closed.”
Among the red flags that the image is fake… who shakes with their left hand? Certainly not the right-handed Rubio.
The Rubio campaign was predictably less than amused. “This is how phony and deceitful the Cruz campaign has become,” Rubio advisor Todd Harris told a gaggle of reporters in South Carolina, while holding up the image in question.
The pushback comes after Cruz faced criticism for what his opponents termed “dirty tricks” in Iowa. In particular, Cruz was criticized for pointing out an official-looking flyer telling voters they faced a “voter violation” unless they voted for him, and for telling supporters to spread a rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race.
UPDATE (11:13 AM): The Cruz campaign doubled down, telling CNN that they believe the image is authentic.

In 1988, I puked all over Ted Cruz’s textbooks. U JELLY?
When Ted Cruz was my roommate, he’d endlessly hit the snooze button. I asked him to stop. He wouldn’t. So I Krazy-glued it.
Mazin is a somewhat famous screenwriter and director (he wrote The Hangover parts II and III and some of the Scary Movies
In a truly wonderful Daily Beast piece in 2013, he expounded at length to reporter Patricia Murphy about his hatred for Cruz
Last time around he was a pain here about idiotically pushing ronpaul.
All started by Carson campaign big shot Armstrong Williams opening mouth and disengaging brain.
Repeating what Carson Campaign and CNN said, is about as much lie as videos of the DONEald he now threatens to sue Cruz over.
It says something that a college roommate would say these things. If we can believe these quotes, it’s a red flag.
There, you proved I was right. While you may not have allowed yourself to utter the word dumpsters, or perhaps just not clever enough, your words convey exactly what you think of us. Trash supporting trash. You can't even recognize what you imply, but believe me if I put words in your mouth, it was only because they have been in your heart and mind, so I thought it time to bring them to your mouth.
Just for the record I am a fiscal, and social conservative who loves this country deeply. I do not take elections lightly, and I always do what I think is best for this country and her citizens. I usually am not happy with the choices I am faced with. There are so many things wrong within this country right now. If any American is under the delusion that a particular candidate will cure all ills this nation faces, they are only setting themselves up for major disappointment. Only one has such capability. Until a majority return to God, or if that majority already exists, speak up and have their voices heard loud and clear the ills will only keep increasing.
I quite honestly do not know what the heck a physical conservative even is. Perhaps in your blind rage to lash out, you lost your train of thought, and meant fiscal conservative. Obviously someone as smart and enlightened as yourself knew what you meant to say.
Now let's talk about the conservative that you are. For whom did you vote for in 2008? In 2012? I bet I can give that answer. You either sat at home and didn't vote or you threw your vote to some 3rd party candidate that hadn't a chance in Hades of winning. Then you sat back, pounded your fists upon your chest and said look at me, I am a true conservative who upheld true conservative principles.
Am I right? Would you even be honest and tell the truth if I were?
It's time you admitted to yourself that you helped in the destruction of this country by allowing Obama to secure the Presidency, not once but twice. I have to question your proclaimed love for America. You also have to admit that there is a real possibility that either of them, McCain/Romney, most likely would not have done as much damage. Granted neither of them probably would have been great Presidents, but at the time they were still our the best choices available that had a real chance of winning. But we will never know if they would have been good or just not as bad as Obama. Now we have really screwed the pooch with the death of Scalia, haven't we.
You have so biased yourself that you are unable to look beyond the narrow interpretation you have given as what conservatism means. It has also restricted you ability to learn exactly what Trump is talking about. Instead relying on the paranoia that lies within you. He does not want socialized medicine. Desiring healthcare for all Americans is not the same as wanting government to control healthcare. There is a vast difference between the two. If it weren't such a sin, at least in my mind, to utter something bad happen to another human being, I'd wish you or one of your loved ones the misfortune of having an illness with only yourself to rely on for aid, and lacking the wherewithal to seek medical attention. But I do think it a sin, and more importantly I would want you to have access to medical treatment, even though affording it wasn't within your budget. I really do not like to see suffering, even when that suffering was brought on by your own doing. If that makes me not a conservative in your eyes, then so be it. I have a higher authority I look to anyway, so it matters not what you think of me.
But my capacity for compassion does havelimitations. For example when someone keeps repeating over and over the same bad choices that got them in trouble the first time. Someone decides they would rather sit back and have others care for them even though they are quite capable of caring for themselves.
Instead you Cruz supporters made up your collective minds, much like liberals, that it was Cruz or Lose. No compromises. Nothing really new there, it is what your brand of conservatism has brought for the last 2 election cycles.
You closed your minds focusing solely on one candidate and refusing to really listen to anything anyone else had to say. In that respect you are no different than liberals for you cannot look beyond your ideologies. Believe me I understand your frustration with INO's, but change does not take place the way you all are going about it. Trump has a real possibility of shaking up the RINO establishment Cruz has certainly shown the hutzpah but not the charisma to get the job done.
There are so many different avenues I can travel down, but I'm getting tired and need to go to sleep. So I'll end here for now at any rate.
Nobody is perfect, even Reagan made mistakes.
All we know is the first photo linked in the article that is claimed to be fake is not fake. We have 3 different angles of it that were posted by news organizations in the past. So the photo linked to the Cruz web site they wanted taken down is real (taken at the Obamas SOTU address).
What is also not in doubt is a drawing of Rubio and Obama shaking hands in front to the capital builds is fake. But it is so obviously fake that there was no way any sensible person would of thought it was real.
The article also points to a third picture. This picture of Rubio leaning against a "closed" sign at Cruz's web site. I did a reverse image search of that picture and it probable is photoshopped. I could not find where it was posted before.
This article tried to make the reader confuse the two is all I can surmise. Thus claiming both were fake.
I see no reason for Cruz to take down the picture first linked in this story (and claimed to be fake).
So to recap... this photo used at the Cruz website linked below is real.
http://www.therealrubiorecord.com/images/dems.jpg
This photo also used at the Cruz website is probable fake. Link below.

Now the article says it is mad at the picture (see post 50 or post 145). This is the picture the campaign manager was holding up (Todd Harris). See link below

It is an obvious fake, so very obvious it doesn't need a disclaimer. I don't know where it was used, since it is not at the Cruz website, so probable on a mailer (which uses photoshopped photos all the time).

You make up your own mind. You are a long time FReeper, so I trust you with the judgement God gave you. FReeregards.
Great Cruz photoshop! That’s the kind of stuff I want to see more of around here...stuff that reminds us that ANY of the Republican candidiates would be better for our country than “Clanders” (maybe they can team up on one ticket in the general election). I don’t have Photoshop on my computer, and have never used it before, but I often think of things I’d like to see some FReeper create and post. A photoshop how-to would be super!
Thanks for your post and the link to your Sanders Youth thread. Now not only do I need to check out “To Live,” but you’ve also put me in the mood to go back and reread “The Good Earth.” I read it in high school and was fascinated by the account of the lives of these Chinese farmers. Now I need to go back and see if there were any political themes that I simply missed as a teenager.
Have a great Friday!!
Glad you like the images. And I agree that it would be great to see more images on FR. Many of us have big 20 inch LCD screens on our desktops so it's a chance to get fuller use of these beautiful displays. And Free Republic is a nice canvas. You can do a lot with it using some basic HTML code. To get started on manipulation, I suggest downloading a copy of the free image capture tool, MWSnap. This will allow you to go on Google Images, crop a portion of an image, drop the image into Microsoft Excel and then just add a caption over the image. Then capture what you create in Excel, and save it as your finished image file which you can then load to Photobucket etc. for use in FR. So I'll let you know when I post a little "How To" video on this subject. Cheers. |
You can also use the built-in Snipping Tool in modern versions of Windows, or the more sophisticated one that’s in OneNote.
One of the things I like about MWSnap is that you can set hot keys and fixed capture sizes.
Rubio has enough real problems. Cruz does not have to lie.
“I donât think itâs Cruz but his media team that is responsible for this, and these videos and even statements have been consistently bad. I donât know who is on his team, but he should dump them. Theyâre doing him no favors.”
Could be, but he hasn’t fired anyone over the Iowa lies and voter intimidation, so he must’ve been ok with it. And then there’s this. It reeks of a dirty politician.
Iowa was just one small proportional state! He got one lousy delegate out of it - or was it 2 more than Trump. What’s he going to do on March 1 then?
Even if it’s the best case scenario for him - he knew nothing of it - then he’s not good at picking people, and that would be a huge handicap as president. huge!
