Univision Communications Inc., the parent company to the nation's leading Spanish-language broadcast channel, has acquired a controlling stake in the satirical news site The Onion, NPR has learned.
The agreement between two seemingly disparate media outfits was described to NPR by a person with direct involvement in the negotiations. A second person who was briefed on the deal by Univision executives also confirmed its broad strokes. The amount of money involved in the deal was not disclosed. NPR has also obtained a memo from the CEO of The Onion announcing the deal to staffers.

Uh oh. Does this mean the pretty much "make fun of everybody" humor at The Onion is going to go away now?

The Onion lost its edge when the real news became indistinguishable from satire.

All sources not named NPR say Univision got a minority stake.

The Onion leans very left, to the point where it is no longer funny.
To be funny, humor must rely on a shared worldview, and I do not share a similar worldview with those people.

Stories this morning said it was just a minority stake, now it’s a controlling interest all of a sudden???
NPR might want to check its facts.

After hurricane Katrina, they had a story about how Dick Cheney called the black people looking for food
“looters”, while white people were simply “foraging” for food. It was funny.

You would think that SOMEBODY at Univision was fluent enough in English to understand about The Onion.

The Onion leans very left, to the point where it is no longer funny. The Onion has always leaned left. It's just that many of their apolitical pieces were so funny, many conservatives missed the anti-conservative stuff. Virtually every piece they did about politics involved making fun of conservatives.
During King Barack's reign, there have been few pieces making digs at the King. When Bush II was president, there were numerous hatchet pieces done on him...likewise other conservatives.
