Calls for Gun Control in Wake of Fast and Furious Ignore Current Law

Attorney General Eric Holder used his testimony before a House committee on Thursday to tout the supposed need for new gun control laws to prevent “gun walking,” or the transportation of firearms across the Southern border. But he – and members of the committee – ignored existing laws that already accomplish Holder’s ostensible goals.

“That is why we need a stronger gun trafficking law,” Holder said in response to questions about recourse against officials who signed off on the gun walking tactic. The tactic was integral to Operation Fast and Furious, which allowed the transportation of roughly 2,500 firearms into Mexico, often with not just the knowledge but the facilitation of federal law enforcement officials, where those guns were given to violent drug cartels.

Many Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where Holder was testifying for the sixth time on Fast and Furious, echoed the attorney general’s calls for greater gun control. Reps. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) touted legislation they introduced, which would make suspected “straw purchases” – the purchases of guns to be handed off to others – illegal.

Holder called that bill “a good place for us to start.”

But neither Holder nor committee members mentioned the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a federal law already on the books that appears to criminalize the precise conduct undertaken by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Operation Fast and Furious.

According to James Steinbauer, a former Senate Intelligence Committee staffer who wrote the Kingpin Act, an extension of the IEEPA, “it is illegal for any U.S. entity or individual to aid, abet, or materially assist — or in the case of Operation Fast and Furious, to facilitate others to aid, abet, or materially assist — designated drug traffickers.”

The criminals are the federal government bureaucrats. The best way to control that is to prosecute and incarcerate them so they can't do it again. That goes right to the heart of the problem instead of writing laws to restrict the freedom of citizens who had no part in their criminal enterprise. Perhaps defunding and eliminating the criminal bureaucracies themselves is the right piece of legislation to prevent a repeat of the bad behavior.

ARGHHH!!!! I just want to slap Holder silly!!!! It’s ALREADY ILLEGAL, and in fact the DoJ and BATFE were breaking existing laws in order to accomplish F&F.

Actually his testimony DOES prove one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt (for those who are already too blind to see). It absolutely PROVES that the reason for the entire scheme was to push for new, tyrannical gun control laws.

Nowhere does Holder accept responsibility or show any remorse for the hundreds of dead Mexican civilians murdered with the weapons his department allowed to be trafficked to the drug cartels, and I’ve heard that some of those guns have begun to turn up at US crime scenes, besides those found where Agent Terry was murdered.

Holder and his “crew” needs to spend the rest of their lives in prison.

The ATF requested that gun shops sell to straw-buyers that didn't pass NICS background checks. As all gun dealers know a "request" from ATF is refused at their legal peril.

ATF field agents were ordered to let the straw-buyers cross the border and leave their surveillance, against their own strenuous objections, or "find another job."

Eric Holder and Company put a plan in motion to give “aid and comfort” to the “enemy” in the “ war on drugs”, they willfully and knowingly used taxpayer money to supply the “enemy” in the “war on drugs” with Weapons. They Financed the “enemy” in the “war on drugs”. These weapons were then used by the”enemy” in the “war on drugs” to Murder Hundreds of innocent people, they were also used AGAINST our OWN CITIZENS BY THE ENEMY IN THE WAR ON DRUGS, At least one Federal Border Patrol Agent was Gunned Down by the “enemy” in the “war on drugs” with these weapons.

2. We The People have spent HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS Fighting the “enemy” in the “war on drugs” since President Richard Nixon signed an EXECUTIVE ORDER Declaring a “War on Drugs”.

3. Every Government Agency and Every Public Servant in America is involved in fighting the “enemy” in the “war on drugs”.

4. We have entire Federal Agencies and Educational Institutions dedicated to fighting the “enemy” in the “war on Drugs”, not to mention Every State has Redundant Agencies fighting the “ENEMY” in the “WAR ON DRUGS”.

5. Every Branch of our UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES is now and has been for years, HEAVILY INVOLVED in fighting the “ENEMY” in the “WAR ON DRUGS”.

Now with these amounts of Public Resources being used at every level of government in the Entire United States fighting the “ENEMY” in the “WAR ON DRUGS”, Why is this not TREASON???
