After yesterdays news of the deal between Senators Pat Leahy and Charles Grassley to get documents and testimony from ATF chief Kenneth Melson on Operation Fast and Furious, it seemed as though Democrats might finally take the scandal of the gunrunning fiasco seriously. Alas, Elijah Cummings and House Democrats appear uninterested in abuses of government power, incompetence, and potential cover-ups at AFT and the Department of Justice. In fact, they want to turn the probe into an argument for expanding government control of firearms:
The top Democrat on a House investigative committee is broadening an inquiry into a botched gun-tracing operation, called Operation Fast and Furious, to include a look at American gun laws. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the leading Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, released a report early Thursday titled Outgunned, that details how Bureau for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents say gun laws need to be tightened for them to fight organized crime along the U.S.-Mexico border

Terrorist attacks with American weapons. Look at the panic caused by the DC snipers. This country would be paralyzed. Every left wing freak would be screaming for the govt to do something about all the guns, and I don't have a doubt Zippo would try.
The Mexican drug cartels don't need American weapons.
They may be using the cartels to get the weapons to the terrorist because they have the people to do it and if they get caught, which they have, then it's just dope dealers getting weapons not terrorist getting weapons.
The ATF clearly aren't the brightest bulbs in the lamp, but nobody is so incompetent they would think they could track weapons once they crossed the border, especially without the cooperation of the Mexican govt.
The selling of guns to cartels for gun control story just doesn't add up. I really don't know how to explain it, but to me it's just too convenient. It sound like a story created because that is what people want to believe.
Fox News interview with senior agent Vince Cefalu. He has been terminated and says about 30 other agents have been terminated due to their opposition to operation Fast and Furious. Says DoJ was intimately involved.
Thanks Durus.
Please add me to your ping list.
No surprise, they are just continuing with the original intent of the debacle.
Mere facts and being discovered are not enough to sway them from their intended course.
This interview left much to be desired. Cefalu, I hope, has provided much more specific information to Grassley and Issa. Also, with the information that he supposedly has available, why wasn’t he called to attend Issa’s first hearing?
This certainly is a mess.
The mainly slime media will toe the dimoc’rat line, and the mindless hoards that have been spewing out of the public schools for fifty years will lap up the kool-aid like nectar.
And it’s all the Republicans’ fault.
Meantime, the truth comes out on Fox, and the only people who see it are Conservatives who already know all about it.
If Issa and Grassley get any impeachments and convictions out of this, they’ll be tarred and feathered with the “McCarthyism” lie. But that’s a big “if.”
Glad to have you. Welcome to the AFIRE! ping list.
I do weekday a.m. updates of the most recent immigration threads, plus updates during the course of the day, when applicable.

Fast and Furious might have been designed for just that, to screw and blame the dealers for cooperating.
“The government is never wrong” cornered dog CYA mode is on going. These people are like rapists, and they rape, and then they murder. THey count on being kept alive because their victims are too weak, or so condidered.
“...They are circling the wagons, folks! We must be getting close to something big!...”
So as a result, OUR wagons must ALWAYS be circled. This is THE single most-criminal administration in the history of this country.
They mean us harm. Have no doubts about it. They are rotten and Red to the core.
Typical Dems—caught with their hands in the cookie jar they demonize the cookies.
