All around, there are Democrats telling us their prospects for November are looking up. Things aren't as bad as Republicans say! Health care is becoming more popular! The country wants financial reform! People still like Barack Obama! Isn't Joe Barton awful!
They're fooling themselves. The basic indicators of voters' intentions -- their general mood and attitude toward the policies of Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid -- are clear and solid. Unless those indicators change, and most experts believe that would take a huge, unforeseen event that fundamentally alters the political equation, Democrats are in for serious losses this November. The only question is whether those losses will be big enough for them to lose their huge majorities in the House and Senate. Even if they're not, the party will be badly weakened in the next Congress.
The latest evidence is a new survey from pollsters Peter Hart and Bill McInturff for the Wall Street Journal and NBC. The number of people who say the country is headed in the wrong direction is 62 percent -- the highest it has been since the final days of George W. Bush. The troubled economy, of course, is the most important issue, and 66 percent say they expect the economy to stay the same or get worse in the next year.
"There is a sense across the board that things aren't working," says Republican pollster David Winston.
Obama's approval rating is at 45 percent, versus 48 percent disapproval -- the first time the president has ever been underwater in the Journal poll. (By way of contrast, the president's approval rating was 61 percent in April 2009, his high point in the Journal poll.)

Re: Headline
We can only hope and VOTE.
Attack Iran. There’s a game changer.
No time to get over-confidant. This guy would think nothing of attacking Iran just before the election to try and bring public opinion to his side.
As Ann Coulter says, never underestimate the ability of the Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
He’d be more likely to attack Israel. If Israel does attack Iran, it would not surprise me at all to see him retaliate against Israel.
No need. The leftist solution is massive vote fraud.
"Huge, unforseen events" are being planned (and arguably executed) on a regular basis by Rahm, Barry, His Majesty Soros, and the rest of the Democrat uber-fascists.
People really need to understand that Soetoro would kill 100,000,000 Americans if it would keep him in power for one more day.
I would hope that the military would refuse that insanity.
I think that attacking Israel would cause an even high level of public outrage.
I expect a serious provocation by North Korea, Iran and/or Venezuela simultaneously with the continuing Gulf oil disaster and financial market collapse, dollar plummeting, hurricanes, earthquakes, forest fires, lions and tigers and bears, oh my!..................
I have said lines like “there is no way that could happen” with this administration probably 5 times a week for the last 18 months or so. I hope you’re right but believe you would be wrong. I can hear Obama invoking Washington regarding treaties and allies needing to change to what’s in the best interest of the country already.
I am still just blown away how 0 and co. have just turned everything upside down and are still around.
On a scale of 1-100. Obama’s caring about public outrage - especially from those on the right - is at about a 0. His calling TEA Party folks “teabaggers” - fully knowing how noxious that term is - was clear indication of that.
I think Rush said it best when he suggested we Should have Carter’s face on those ‘Miss me yet?’ billboards.
Heard this morning that the dems are trying to cut out the electoral college by getting 11 of the most populous states to change their statutes to say that they will cast their electoral votes in accordance with the majority of the country’s vote (not their own state’s votes). That will equal 271 votes. It means that the small and rural states will essentially be cut out.
Let me know if you find a source for that.
