"The Death Book for Veterans: Ex-soldiers don't need to be told they're a burden to society" by Jim Towey in today's (August 18) Wall Street Journal says,

Should we expect less from this gang. Nothing will surprise me at how far they will try to go.
As it is meant to ... this is about population control — us vets are just easy tagets, like granny there.
Just rememeber Obots out there, one day it will be your turn, and by then the criteria will have changed drastically - as money runs out the criteria will continually defined down to maybe to 50 or 55, for people who have any disabilities, handicapped, etc.
you said mandatory... where is the Fed Govt making it mandatory?!?
“you said mandatory... where is the Fed Govt making it mandatory?!?”
BO’s medical plan (aka nationalizing the healthcare system) makes end of life counseling mandatory.
cite?
“cite?”
read the bill, if you haven’t heard multiple references to that by now I don’t think I can help you.
And this booklet discusses both advance directives and healthcare proxies. :-)
lol
Did you receive replies from your emails about this yet?
Many people fail to realize the terminology and laws differ from state-to-state.
It’s sad to read so many FReepers are against patients having access to options, and to getting information to make their own choices. :-(
I would caution against sweeping statements about VA care, though. Some is excellent; some is horrifying. A physician I know left the system because of being sickened by unnecessary patient deaths, and the inability get things changed.
So you think that a patient should not be able to request this counseling regarding options and get it covered by Medicare?
The only parts I see are NOT mandatory...all that was listed as mandatory was that it was mandatory for Medicare to cover it. It never said that it was mandatory to the patient. If you can point me to that part, I’d be grateful, as searches don’t turn up anything like you describe.
I do not think that the Federal Government should be involved in end of life counseling. It is between the patient, his doctors, and his family. There are many chaplains around this great Country in hospitals not to mention churches who are available for this kind of counseling. Hospice did a wonderful job with my Dad.
I don’t want the federal government involved in mandating end of life counseling which is what we are talking about with this healthcare bill.
Do I think it should be part of Medicare — NO! Why does everything have to be paid for by the Government when there are senior advocates everywhere?
What happened to people taking care of themselves instead of asking the Federal Government to do it?
I didn’t Kim....but the folks I sent this to, wouldn’t typically reply...they know what’s up, and they’d just fume and continue to send on to their friends...and on and on and on and on.....
“all that was listed as mandatory was that it was mandatory for Medicare to cover it. It never said that it was mandatory to the patient.”
lets see, you have socialized medicine where the doctors can only provide whats approved, and the patients can only receive what is approved.
Doctors already do this, its their job. We don’t need the federal government mandating that at age 65 the doctor must tell the patient they should choose to die rather than being a drag on society.
Or do you really think the guy that wrote this bill, who is the same guy that said dementia patients shouldn’t be given care, has any doubt about what should happen to old people.
Have you looked at what happens in countries with socialized medicine? You seem to be a proponent for nationalizing the healthcare system. Nationalizing anything is wrong but doing it to the healthcare system will result in millions of deaths and suffering on a massive scale.
“Its sad to read so many FReepers are against patients having access to options, and to getting information to make their own choices”
Having access to options, sounds very progressive.
Seniors have access to options. Doctors provide the counseling necessary and book it under an office visit or whatever they choose.
Should a govt bureaucrat be in the examining room to make sure the doctor does it correctly? We want to make sure they have ‘access’ ya know.
Just heard on FoxNews that Chris Wallace will be discussing this VA ‘directive’ on Fox News Sunday. It is going to get heated..as it should. This should get exposed and we can expect lots of trolls in the coming days trying to defend the indefensible.
