Many people fail to realize the terminology and laws differ from state-to-state.

It’s sad to read so many FReepers are against patients having access to options, and to getting information to make their own choices. :-(

I would caution against sweeping statements about VA care, though. Some is excellent; some is horrifying. A physician I know left the system because of being sickened by unnecessary patient deaths, and the inability get things changed.

Having access to options, sounds very progressive.

Seniors have access to options. Doctors provide the counseling necessary and book it under an office visit or whatever they choose.

Should a govt bureaucrat be in the examining room to make sure the doctor does it correctly? We want to make sure they have ‘access’ ya know.

Absolutely 100% correct. The folks I know who work for the VA ( and particularly with the home bound and elderly -— and yes those can be different sets) are some of the finest docs and nurses I have ever known. They experience a frustration level that most of us would not tolerate as they battle the bureaucracy to get the care that the vet NEEDS and DESERVES.

Thank you for your thoughtful post
