Hey y'all,
I am in the process of negotiating with the Gaylord Palms hotel to hold our Freeper Convention there on April 25. We can get a rate of $99 per night (which is a great rate for this really nice hotel) and the convention room will be complimentary.
For that rate they are asking for us to block a minimum of 40 rooms; if some people are staying both Friday and Saturday nights that would count as 2 rooms. The contract will be written such that if all 40 rooms are not picked up we would have to pay the difference. So, for example, if only 10 rooms were actually reserved the person signing the contract (me) would owe them $2970. I told them those terms were not acceptable, but they seem to be willing to work out some other terms if I can get them a firm number on how many guest rooms will be reserved.
Please mail me by Friday, 3/27/09, and let me know if you will be staying at the hotel and for how many nights. Without getting committments from you I feel uncomfortable agreeing to even 10 rooms, though I hope we have a better showing than that!
The convention will be on April 25, a Saturday, from 8am to 6pm. Room reservations for Friday and Saturday will count towards our minimum number required.
3-D Joy was talking about sharing a room with someone. Perhaps y’all could work something out.
Thanks Roos. I’m there. I live very close to the Palms so I don’t need a room. Keep me pinged!
I know you’re local in Winter Springs, but did you want a room for one of the nights?
No Thanks
I am so broke I can't even pay attention.

Folks, bookmark this thread and keep checking. All hotel info will be made manifest unto thee as soon as the Chair nails down the details and posts them here.
If anyone is looking for a roomie to share the room cost, post it here. Contact each other directly by freepmail to make arrangements. Make sure there is pre-pay in these arrangements. The convention committee is not responsible for no-shows.

Thursday morning and I'm checking in. I need an answer from everyone by Friday morning. Below is a list of people that have told me they want a room. If I've missed you please let me know. If you've decided there's no way you can pass up a fantastic deal of only $99 per night at the Gaylord Palms (regular rates for April 25 is $229!) I'll add you to my list.
SeekTheTruth & Hubby - 2 nights (saving $260)
MinuteGal - 2 nights (saving $260)
Mike Evers - 1 or 2 nights (saving $130 or $260)

If you haven't checked out the hotel yet, take a look here. You'll want to stay!
This is the additional list of people attending that are local and don't want a room:
Rockingham
Voter#357
subterfuge
Humal & friends
Bushbacker1
bill1952
CRBDeuce
spacejunkie
Wishing you all the best for a safe transit and good times together.
My husband and I *would* attend if we weren’t in NW Florida and I’m due with my baby the next day... don’t think that’s the best plan for us this time!
We will probably stay over but I am also happy to cover the cost for someone that may not be able to afford it during these outrageous times.
Folks, we need a committment from you now. You want to do it! You CAN do it! Notify Roos on this thread if you want one night or two (Friday and convention day, Saturday).....and then honor your committment so no one is left holding the bag after the event under the hotel deal.
If you've ever been a chair or on a committee working on a big event, you know how helpful it is to the volunteers to do what you can to make their responsibilities a little lighter.
Hey, I'm checking in on Friday afternoon to make my driving chore less onerous. Who wants to join some of us for dinner at poolside under warm, starry Florida skies for a signature juicy hamburger, fries and freeptalk?
Remember, we talk politics at our gatherings of eagles!!!

Thanks for adding your voice...and I agree, that's probably where NavyVet was headed (at least from my perspective as an Army Vet). Operative word "Family". To be honest, I haven't quite decided yet whether this administration is Socialist or a Persian Trojan Horse with all the Iranian infiltrators...Hopefully the end result will be the pendulum swinging back to "American", before "last call". Looking forward to discussing all this with you again Next month!
Ditto what you said....oh, and I won’t hold it against you that you left out my favorite ‘watering hole’ ...the Schooner, still standing after all the hurricanes!
Whoa...that campaign was besieged by the thousands of organizations with BDS that swamped his phone lines daily! I 'd rather see us get on board with this 'lone ranger' of conservatism who, like you, took on the Clinton Machine.! Later during his own campaign, that he didn't 'know you' from the thousands of orgs that saw him as the same pariah as Bush should not be held against him in that fracas! That he didn't win is more related to his successful impeachment of Clinton than not returning calls to FreeRepublic (not that I condone it, of course). I am glad he's our AG, completely 180 opposite of the NY and Conn AGs....not a corrupt bone in the guy.
Sounds great to me, Leni! We will also be checking in Friday afternoon. Dinner poolside sounds right up our ally!
Consider the Tarpon Springs contingent represented.

Freepers, we are going to enjoy a free hall/meeting facility from the hotel for our meetings, but there's always some peripheral costs involved in holding a convention.
Any litter bit you can donate will be much appreciated. Any excess after expenses are met will be donated to FR in the name of our three Florida Chapters.
Donations and screen names of donors will be posted on a HelluvaGoodGuys list on the home page of Roos_Girl.

I admit to over-generalizing just to make a point. However, I could not say that McCollum did not know about FR, because Congressman Bob Barr told us that the Judiciary Committee began to think that America was not interested in impeachment of Clinton for his high crimes until FR descended on Washington on Oct. 31, 1998 and held a highly successful demonstration on the Mall in the shadow of the Washington Monument.
In my opinion, he tried to avoid FR in a ploy to appear as a 'moderate' and not be associated with the 'hard right'; that is definitely just my opinion.
I hope he does not run for the Senate; he lacks the fervent aggression needed to re-establish Constitutional principles... my opinion. If only he were in the mold of Tom Delay!
