Hey y'all,
I am in the process of negotiating with the Gaylord Palms hotel to hold our Freeper Convention there on April 25. We can get a rate of $99 per night (which is a great rate for this really nice hotel) and the convention room will be complimentary.
For that rate they are asking for us to block a minimum of 40 rooms; if some people are staying both Friday and Saturday nights that would count as 2 rooms. The contract will be written such that if all 40 rooms are not picked up we would have to pay the difference. So, for example, if only 10 rooms were actually reserved the person signing the contract (me) would owe them $2970. I told them those terms were not acceptable, but they seem to be willing to work out some other terms if I can get them a firm number on how many guest rooms will be reserved.
Please mail me by Friday, 3/27/09, and let me know if you will be staying at the hotel and for how many nights. Without getting committments from you I feel uncomfortable agreeing to even 10 rooms, though I hope we have a better showing than that!
The convention will be on April 25, a Saturday, from 8am to 6pm. Room reservations for Friday and Saturday will count towards our minimum number required.

I am in the area so I will probably will not stay over but if needed you can count me in for one night.
Damn... I wish it were closer to VA. Would love to be there.
I live here so won’t need a room but would be willing to cover you for one night if necessary. bttt
Please ping your list!
FWIW, The Gaylord Palms is gorgeous and HUGE!....all the amenities one could want, you would never need to leave the place!!...It's a small country!
We need to link to the Gaylord site so folks will see what is being offered.
Your link didn’t work for me ?
What’s this about a Freeper Convention? Is this for real, or is this simply a get-together? I’m down in Sarasota, so I’d be willing to come up for a couple of nights if there’s anything to meet about.
Yes, it is for real and a real convention! We Florida Freepers need to organize and set goals for 2010 and beyond concerning both state and national elections. There will be lots to talk about plus we get to meet so many other Florida Freepers!
Hubby and I will be there for Friday and Saturday nights!:)

Thank you for your service, you are doing a great job!
BTW, if anyone wants to share a room, to help with costs, I'm happy to do so
Yep, like SeekTheTruth said, this is not just a get together. We’re setting an agenda and starting to lay down some real goals for the coming months and years. I believe we need to focus on the local 2010 elections, particularly the Senate seat that Martinez is vacating. And I think we need to talk about ways to network with other grassroots groups and like-minded politicians to see if we can undo some of this nonsense that’s going on.
I had asked people to contribute the top 5 goals they think we need to accomplish and to refer to Jim Rob’s guidelines when he posted the original idea of having local Freeper conventions. I’m not sure too many people have done that; SeekTheTruth is the keeper of that list though if you’d like to contribute.
We’re hoping to get at least one guest speaker within our range of topics, perhaps a conservative candidate who would be running against Charlie Crist for that Senate seat.
Thanks for posting the correct link to the hotel. It’s a beautiful venue and I think well worth the super reduced price their trying to work for us on the room cost.
I would like to see it be Saturday night.
Come on down, it’ll be a fantastic time!
Amen to that Roos Girl...I’ll definitely be there.
BTW, who is the ‘head’ of the Florida Freepers, anyone? The guy that heads up Reagan Club for Orange County (was at the tea party) wants to get together with our group and align our goals. He wants to get in touch with whoever heads up FLA if there is such a person.
