WASHINGTON A U.S. senator has weighed in on the continuing controversy over Barack Obama's eligibility for office by saying he has never seen proof the new president was actually born in Hawaii.
"Well, his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven't seen any birth certificate," Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., told constituents in Cullman County. "You have to be born in America to be president."

I share the same sentiments. Why can’t they unseal his birth records and end the controversy?

The only time we can count on Republicans having testosterone is when they are in the minority party. To me this is nothing more than a:
Last gasp RINO minority desperation Hail Mary shot-in-the-dark "Hey, listen to me!" publicity stunt steaming pile of stinking BULLSHIT.
And I'm being nice.

Does Wikipedia always allow such obviously biased statements to stand? If I were Shelby, I would be all over this.

"You have to be born in America to be president." That's not true. What's required is to be a "natural born citizen". McCain wasn't born in the US, but he is a natural born citizen. He was born to two US citizens in the Canal Zone. In Obama's case, if he were born outside of the US, he would not be a natural born citizen according to the laws that existed at the time of his birth, because his mother was under 19 when he was born, and his father was not a US citizen.

What would happen if 100 million or more did not pay their federal income taxes UNTIL Obama shows all requested documents? And for those coward states who refused to vet Obama, not pay state income tax either.

Shelby’s argument isn’t the strongest one, as it relies on the presumption of what the original birth certificate MAY reveal.
The stronger arguments, are questions relating to the Indonesian adoption, apparent Indonesian passport use in 1981, and the “dual (Kenyan) citizenship” (which all have been admitted to be factual, and which contradict the “natural born” citizen requirement of the Constitution).

Love whoever is spinning this as RACIALLY motivated. Probably 99.5% of the black males over 35 in the US would be constitutionally eligible to be POTUS and this is racially motivated?
My thoughts on SCOTUS skirting the issue is if he is found to be not eligible, the civil unrest (read that riots) would not be pleasant.

RINO is not a term I would apply to Shelby. Is he Jesse Helms? No. But he’s sure no Voinovich or Collins.

He is sniffing at the trail but he isn’t sure what kind of an animal he smells yet. You not only have to be born in America you have to be a natural born citizen, Obama doesn’t qualify as natural born even if he had been born in the same cabin as Lincoln.
