A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest, such as protests against businesses and government or runs on beleaguered banks.
Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security, said the War College report.
The study says economic collapse, terrorism and loss of legal order are among possible domestic shocks that might require military action within the U.S.
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn warned Wednesday of economy-related riots and unrest in various global markets if the financial crisis is not addressed and lower-income households are hurt by credit constraints and rising unemployment.
U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., and U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., both said U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson brought up a worst-case scenario as he pushed for the Wall Street bailout in September. Paulson, former Goldman Sachs CEO, said that might even require a declaration of martial law, the two noted.
State and local police in Arizona say they have broad plans to deal with social unrest, including trouble resulting from economic distress. The security and police agencies declined to give specifics, but said they would employ existing and generalized emergency responses to

Sounds like a disaster plan preparedness exercise.
Perhaps they know it’s coming. If it is, let it be in my time... so that my grandchildren may live free.
“I think the current president has made all this possible.”
A whole mess of folks did this. People who have bought and lived beyond their means...for a long time...including some extremely wealthy people.
If it was possible to have a mortgage essentially on the ‘honor system’ by stating how much you could pay, instead of going by the book, just how much of a lack of integrity has there had to have been all up and down the line? Homeless to executive alike, there just isn’t an appreciable percentage of the populous that can look themselves in the eye and state with confidence that he did all he could to avoid any of the practices that have gotten the US in this hole.
My father used to say to me that “we are all tarred with the same stick.”

No, it is most certainly not.
Read the paper as linked in post #14 or #19 and (a) recognize the nonsense that can be cultivated right here on FR, and (b) sleep better tonight.
Will do. Thanks.
Exactly what I said. This is a threat to keep us in line!! If this kinda thing doesn’t wake you up to what the Dems are about NOTHING WILL!!!

Then are Strauss-Kahn, Inhofe, Sherman, and Paulson in the War College, or associated with this paper?

Since the military has taken a vow to protect the constitution against all enemies.
The military doesn’t know the constitution anymore than most Americans....they will follow orders or desert.

I have not re-reported the story for the reporter, who has demonstrably done a terrible job reporting on the War College thesis, which is NOT AT ALL about domestic riots.
I’d start from the premise that the rest of the story is also atrociously reported.
It would not surprise me at all.
“A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest..”
Very dangerous scenario for the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington. The troops might decide that the “civil unrest” orginated in Washington DC and other big liberal cities and take appropriate action. The perfumed princes at the Pentagon will quickly lose control.
Ping
Nothing surprises me anymore...unfortunately.
Thanks also. I remember enjoying peeing on Y2K advocates.
I worked in a powerplant in a formal life and enjoyed telling people how few people were needed to start a cold COAL fired power plant w/o computers. Of course, if the coal ran out...........
Or hype creating funding.
Haven’t these idiots heard of Posse Comitatus?
and the plan - (plugs's thing that won't seem like the right thing to do...)
Hitler would be jealous
