:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

Lynden border crossing reopened (WA)
Dec, 9, 2007

The Lynden-Aldergrove border crossing is open again after officials investigated a suspicious powder, according to a Washington Department of Transportation news release. The border was closed from about 10:30 a.m. to noon after Canadian authorities stopped a person at the border who had envelopes with the powder on them, said Sgt. George Jenkins with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Officials closed the border as a precaution while HAZMAT workers investigated the powder, Jenkins said. No other information about the situation was available at 1:45 p.m.

India warns of wave of al-Qaeda attacks
Mon, 10 Dec 2007

India's National Security Adviser M. K. Narayanan has warned Persian Gulf states to brace for a new wave of al-Qaeda terrorist attacks. Narayanan told a regional security conference in Bahrain on Sunday that the recommendation is based on the intelligence gathered by India.

New al-Qaeda training camps had been established along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, from where the new generations of super-tough and committed terrorists were coming out, Narayanan said. He told the meeting that key leaders and infrastructures like oil pipelines, storage depots and tankers were at higher risk of being targeted by groups like al-Qaeda.

This is the first time in recent years that New Delhi has used its intelligence inputs to caution other countries at a public forum.

Watching the waterfront watchers

....the Waterfront Commission has 102 employees and an annual budget of $8 million. A source who wished to remain anonymous because he or she feared retribution told the paper that patronage was so entrenched at the organization that people were being hired as police officers even though they were unqualified and after failing examinations multiple times.

US Teamster Chief protests US-Mexico cargo program

Dozens of San Diego truckers gathered at the Otay Mesa border crossing, a major port of entry for cargo. A pilot program lets about 50 Mexican trucks cross the border and travel freely in the United States. That's if those trucks meet strict standards.

But Teamsters President Jim Hoffa says Mexican trucks are still unsafe, and their drivers could pose a risk.

Hoffa: They don't have a database in which people can be held accountable if they get a drunk driving or have any type of record. They're also basically a national security risk from the standpoint of we don't know they are, what they are.

“Over 1,000 Muslims go to Mecca from Uganda”

Sunday, 9th December, 2007

KAMPALA

OVER 1,000 Muslims have gone for Haj in Saudi Arabia. “We have given out 1,025 free visas to Ugandans to go for Haj in Saudi Arabia,” a source in the consular section of the Saudi Embassy said on Friday said.

He dismissed allegations that Ugandans would be barred from participating in the Haj activities following the outbreak of Ebola in the country.

“They will participate in Haji activitivies because by the time the Ebola pandemic came in the limelight, some of them had already left the country. Saudi Arabia has not communicated to us about such a possibility.”

Vigilantes kill 40 women in Iraq's south

"The women of Basra are being horrifically murdered and then dumped in the garbage with notes saying they were killed for un-Islamic behavior," Khalaf told The Associated Press. He said men with Western clothes or haircuts are also attacked in Basra, an oil-rich city some 30 miles from the Iranian border and 340 miles southeast of Baghdad.

“Slain evangelists were tortured, says Turkish doctor”
April 20, 2007

(REUTERS)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “MALATYA, Turkey — Three Protestants murdered at a Christian publishing house in Malatya, Turkey, were tortured for three hours before their assailants slit their throats, a press report said Friday, quoting one of the doctors involved in the grisly case.

Dr. Murat Ugras, a spokesman for the Turgut Ozal Medical center, told the daily Hurriyet of hospital surgeons’ fruitless efforts to save Ugur Yuksel, one of the three victims of the massacre at the Zirve (summit) publishing house, which distributed Christian literature.

“He had scores of knife cuts on his thighs, his testicles, his rectum, and his back,” Ugras said. “His fingers were sliced to the bone.

“It is obvious that these wounds had been inflicted to torture him,” he said.

The two others who were killed, Necati Aydin, pastor of Malatya’s tiny Protestant community, and German Tilmann Geske, a Malatya resident with his wife and three children since 2003, were also tortured, press reports said.

The abuse lasted for three hours as the five men detained at the crime scene interrogated the three on their missionary activities, they said.

“We tied their hands and feet and later gagged them,” the mass daily Sabah quoted one of the suspects as telling police. “Emre slit their throats,” said the youth, who was not named, referring to Emre Gunaydin, the alleged leader of the gang, who is at the same hospital in serious condition after jumping out of the publishers’ third floor office in a bid to flee police. “

Gaddafi launches high-profile visit in France (Libya buys nuclear reactor and aircraft)

Agence France-Presse ^ | December 10, 2007

Excerpt -

Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi arrives in Paris Monday for a high-profile visit set to usher in multi-billion-euro nuclear and aviation contracts, even as critics lashed President Nicolas Sarkozy for welcoming the former pariah.
Staying in a heated Bedouin tent pitched near the Elysee presidential palace, Kadhafi is expected during the five-day visit to approve the purchase of three billion euros (4.4 billion dollars) of Airbus planes, a nuclear reactor and possibly Rafale fighter jets.

“Shootings kill 3, wound 6 at Colorado religious sites”
By Valerie Richardson
December 10, 2007
ARVADA, Colo. —

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A suspect, identified only as a white man in his 20s wearing dark clothing, was killed shortly after he began firing at parishioners at about 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. A church member, reportedly a teenage girl, was killed in the attack.

Nearly 12 hours earlier, a gunman opened fire at Youth With a Mission in Arvada, an international missionary training center on the Faith Bible Chapel campus, killing two missionaries and wounding two others. In that incident, the shooter was described as a white man in his 20s wearing a black coat and black beanie-style cap.

Police in Arvada and Colorado Springs said last night that they were working together to determine whether the two shootings were carried out by the same gunman. The mission training program has a small office at the church’s World Prayer Center on the New Life campus.”

“Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.”
By Travis Rowley
ProJo.com | Monday, December 10, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Oh, you Muslims everywhere, sever the ties of their nation, tear them apart, ruin their economy, instigate against their corporations, destroy their embassies, attack their interests, sink their ships, and shoot down their airplanes. Kill them in land, at sea, and in the air. Kill them wherever you find them.
— Sheikh Abdel Rahman

WHILE NOBODY enjoys being afraid, fear remains a useful human emotion. Fear fuels human reasoning. And without it, we would not be able to discern the brave from the spineless; the principled from the passive.

Yet, when it comes to the threat of Islamic jihad, many from the American left dismiss fear as a destructive instinct — a sensation that can never lead us to truth, but only to irrationality.”

Press Release A071210a
December 10, 2007

Coalition force operations disrupt al-Qaeda networks; 27 suspects detained

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces captured four wanted individuals and 23 additional suspects during operations Sunday and Monday targeting al-Qaeda networks in central and northern Iraq.

During continued efforts to disrupt al-Qaeda networks in the capital city, Coalition forces captured a wanted individual and one additional suspect during an operation in Baghdad. The wanted individual is allegedly involved in al-Qaeda in Iraq propaganda and media operations and is a close associate of a suspect detained on Dec. 9.

In Taji, Coalition forces captured an alleged al-Qaeda in Iraq leader also involved in the terrorist networks in Baghdad. Reports indicate he is a close associate of senior terrorists in a network operating in northern Baghdad. This network is responsible for the majority of car-bombing and improvised explosive device attacks in the area, and is involved in extortion, intimidation, weapons trafficking and the facilitation of foreign terrorists. One additional suspect was detained during the operation.

Northwest of Mansuriyah, Coalition forces captured a wanted individual allegedly associated with the al-Qaeda in Iraq network operating in Muqdadiyah and involved in foreign terrorist facilitation. The wanted individual is reportedly an associate of several al-Qaeda members previously detained by Coalition forces for their role in networks operating in the Diyala River Valley.

During operations in Samarra, Bayji and Hawija, Coalition forces detained 14 suspected terrorists and wounded one while targeting associates of propaganda and media operations, car-bombing cells, and foreign terrorist and weapons facilitation networks. During the operation in Bayji, the ground force received hostile fire from a building in the target area and returned fire in self-defense, wounding one. The suspect was detained, treated on site and transported to a military medical facility.

On Sunday, Coalition forces captured a wanted individual in Mosul believed to be a foreign terrorist facilitator associated with senior facilitators operating in and outside of Iraq. The wanted individual is reportedly involved in the facilitation of supplies and finances for use in attacks against Coalition forces. As the ground force entered the target building, the wanted individual attempted to leave through the back door. Coalition forces engaged to stop his movement, wounding and subsequently detaining him. The individual was treated and transported to a nearby military medical facility. In addition to the wanted individual, six suspects were detained.

“Iraqi is still a violent place beset by many challenges,” said Capt. Vic Beck, MNF-I spokesman. “We will continue to conduct operations that diminish al-Qaeda’s ability to attack innocent Iraqis.”

Thanks for the new thread ian.

I’ve been away for a while, but am back. I don’t have much information, but osama tapes without action is very unusual.

There -used- to be a 2 week timeline for a zawahri tape and an attack right. Now look, we’ve been hit with a flurry that most of the people are numb, really if anything they have done a good job of making the sheeple forget. I feel they are still preparing for something big.

btw- it looks like Jill is updating her site, soon. http://www.homelandsecurityus.net

stay safe guys. i had to come back cuz well every day is worldwide caution, and i see people perscuted daily for race/gender beliefs. we have to control those repeated links.

but this is different, the only thread ‘in it’ .

Cindy you mean a lot to all of us, really., you are a hard worker and wicked information hunter. But in your absence it was purely terrorism related, we don’t need to hear about the illegal mexican carjacking yknow? It would just keep the list cleaner, small events happen everywhere, daily in every city. Carjackings, robbieries, rapes.

These guys will come with a bang. Let’s keep our eye out for the big stuff, not what happens on my block (and almost everyones for that matter) daily.

I am not coming back to be judgemental but can we keep it topic related?

still worried about the tape timeline. Who has a record of osama tapes since 9/11? Zawahri’s tapes used to be mega dangerous, you’d have 2 weeks of a countdown. Now , we’re sitting in this bad silence.

Stay safe all.

-hunter

later.
