:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

Man in black attempts to hijack snowplow

It's common for Minnesota Department of Transportation snowplow drivers to stop and aid people in distress.

So when Steven Jensen saw a man standing in the middle of Hwy. 210 Tuesday night near Battle Lake, he did what many of his fellow drivers do. He stopped to help.

That's when things got weird, said Judy Jacobs, a communications specialist for MnDOT's District 4 office in Detroit Lakes.

The man, dressed in black, approached the driver's door, climbed on the plow and told Jensen, "Get out of the truck," Otter Tail County Sheriff Brian Schlueter said.

“Iranian Rockets Found, Turned Over to Coalition Forces”
Saturday, 08 December 2007

PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: “FORWARD OPERATING BASE DELTA — A cache of Iranian manufactured rockets was turned over to Coalition forces based at Forward Operating Base Delta, Dec. 4.

Iraqi civil defense personnel delivered 14 107 mm Iranian rockets and fuses to the Kazakhstani Soldiers, said 1st Lt. Almaz Mukashev, the Kazakhstani liaison officer. The rockets were manufactured in 2006.

The Iraqi civil defense personnel have turned over munitions to Coalition forces before, but this was the first delivery of Iranian weapons to Coalition forces, said Col. Peter Baker, the 214th Fires Brigade commander.

“This is another indication of the cooperation of Iraqi officials who in all earnestness want to have a better society,” Baker said. “They know these rockets are here illegally and that they are here to maim and kill Iraqi security forces and Coalition forces.”

Baker said this is a sign that Iraqis are taking ownership of their area to bring about better security.

“Iraqis have to be part of the security and reconstruction effort,” Baker said. “The more stable and secure the area is, the more projects we will be able to undertake and the more capacity building we will be able to accomplish, whether it is in health, education or fuel, all of which is benefiting the Iraqis.”

The Kazakhstani unit gave the munitions to Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Three for analysis.

The Kazakhstani battalion provides EOD support to FOB Delta.

Press Release A071208a
December 8, 2007

Coalition forces disrupts al-Qaeda networks; 12 killed, 13 detained

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces killed 12 terrorists and detained 13 suspects during operations Saturday to disrupt al-Qaeda networks in central and northern Iraq.

During an operation south of Yusufiyah, Coalition forces targeted a suspected associate of an al-Qaeda leader involved in the network operating south of Bagdad. The network is believed to be involved in planning an attack against Coalition forces operating in the region. As Coalition forces approached the area, they observed several armed men emerge from the target building, maneuvering into military style positions into a nearby palm grove. Perceiving hostile intent, Coalition forces engaged.

As the ground force began to clear the area, they saw additional movement from the armed men, to include one that attempted to maneuver away and evade capture. Coalition forces called for supporting aircraft to engage the perceived hostile threat. During the engagements, a total of ten terrorists were killed. Once the area was secure, the ground force discovered numerous machine guns, rocket propelled grenades, and several sandbags full of homemade explosive material, which were safely destroyed on site. Additionally, two suspected terrorists were detained during the course of operations.

North of Jalula, Coalition forces targeted an al-Qaeda in Iraq member believed to be involved in the terrorist network operating in the Diyala River Valley. The targeted individual is reportedly associated with senior terrorist members and involved in attacks against Coalition and Iraqi security forces.

During the operation, as Coalition forces approached the target, several men emerged and ran into a nearby palm grove. The ground force located one of the individuals and called for him to stop his movement, but he did not comply. Perceiving hostile intent, Coalition forces engaged, killing him. Upon clearing the target area, the ground forces discovered a small cache of ammunition.

Farther north in Mosul, Coalition forces conducted an operation targeting an alleged al-Qaeda in Iraq leader tied to a network of senior leaders in the region. Reports indicate the targeted individual has a history of involvement in terrorist activities and has held positions in numerous al-Qaeda networks operating in the city.

As the ground force entered one of the buildings in the target area, an individual was injured as he attempted to flee the building. He was treated on site, but died before being transported to a medical facility. Additionally, three suspected terrorists were detained on site without incident.

During another operation, Coalition forces detained eight suspected terrorists in Samarra while targeting a senior foreign terrorist facilitator with ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders.

“We’re continuing to take the fight to the enemy,” said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. “Our operations are diminishing al-Qaeda’s ability to attack the Iraqi people and the forces that protect them.”

For all good guy lurkers and Freepers take a moment to read this because it’s important.

1. If someone knocks on your vehicle door and tries to get in your vehicle or tells you to get out of your vehicle — IT’S YOUR CALL, but for what it is worth; I wouldn’t get out of my vehicle; nor would I let a stranger in my vehicle. Get your vehicle out of there quick. Again, IT’S YOUR CALL.

2. If you get in your car and you find someone in your car IT’S YOUR CALL, but your first priority is to get out of your car if possible. If it’s not possible, press your Onstar emergency button; or that little emergency alert you wear around your neck; or if it is a crowded area lean on your horn and yell (or be creative and talk yourself and/or the guy out of the car — this can be tricky), or a combination of these options; but again, IT’S YOUR CALL.

3. If you’re in a rather remote area and you’re by yourself (that’s dumb) and some guy wants you (with a suggestion of force or implied force) to get in your vehicle and take him with you; IT’S YOUR CALL. I would prefer to fight it out than get in the car with someone I don’t know, but IT’S YOUR CALL.

FWIW, I have personally experienced scenarios 1 & 2 and I suggest all of us think about these things and figure out what we would do if caught in these situations (again). It’s always better to prepare for emergencies and have a plan. Thank you for reading this.

“Muslim apostates threatened over Christianity”
Last Updated: 1:11am GMT 09/12/2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “When Sofia Allam left the Muslim faith for Christianity, the response from her family was one of persecution and threats. Alasdair Palmer explores the dangers facing Islam’s apostates

Sofia Allam simply could not believe it. Her kind, loving father was sitting in front of her threatening to kill her. He said she had brought shame and humiliation on him, that she was now “worse than the muck on their shoes” and she deserved to die.

Religious persecution of the kind Sofia suffers is increasingly common in Britain today

And what had brought on his transformation? He had discovered that she had left the Muslim faith in which he had raised her and become a Christian.

“He said he couldn’t have me in the house now that I was a Kaffir [an insulting term for a non-Muslim],” Sofia - not her real name - remembers.

“He said I was damned for ever. He insulted me horribly. I couldn’t recognise that man as the father who had been so kind to me as I was growing up.

“My mother’s transformation was even worse. She constantly beat me about the head. She screamed at me all the time. I remember saying to them, as they were shouting death threats, ‘Mum, Dad - you’re saying you should kill me… but I’m your daughter! Don’t you realise that?’?”

They did not: they insisted they wanted her out of their house.”
