THE scientist who led the team that cracked the human genome is to publish a book explaining why he now believes in the existence of God and is convinced that miracles are real.
Francis Collins, the director of the US National Human Genome Research Institute, claims there is a rational basis for a creator and that scientific discoveries bring man closer to God.
His book, The Language of God, to be published in September, will reopen the age-old debate about the relationship between science and faith. One of the great tragedies of our time is this impression that has been created that science and religion have to be at war, said Collins, 56.

One of the great tragedies of our time is this impression that has been created that science and religion have to be at war. This is exactly how I feel. So many people are extremists in one way or another; if they love God, they deny any validity to science, and vice versa.
Why is it so rare to both study science and yet give due credit to God?

If he said "all" rather than "most," you MIGHT have a point, though the "full of it, as usual" comment was uncalled for. Where exactly is he wrong in what he said?

I agree. When I took A & P for nursing school (about a thousand years ago!) it was the beginning of my true faith. Before then- I believed or more accurately- I hoped. After learning physiology- I KNEW.

He is indeed history. But the fact remains that His life is a historical fact. That's what I meant by that.

His name is, "Hawking". [as opposed to "Hawkings".]That wheelchair guy?
Yes, indeed. Thetheoretical physicist with a brilliant mind trapped in a body so debilitated that, judging by appearance alone, no one would take him seriously. His audible "voice" is even that of a speech synthesizer. 100 years earlier, he would have been in an asylum -- or a freak show...

Wouldn't it be something if he announced he believed in ? That would send a lot of people here into spasms. That would be like a scientist believing in Astrology. "Creation Science" is an oxymoron. "Creation Belief" is the proper term.

Couldn't agree more with this guy.

Dr. Collins has been a devout man for a long time. Anyone who suggests that this represents a recent development in this life and a rejection of modern evolutionary biology on his part is being disingenuous.

I'm a firm creationist.
But the 6,000 year old earth is nonsense.
There are Chinese characters more than 7,000 years old.
