THE scientist who led the team that cracked the human genome is to publish a book explaining why he now believes in the existence of God and is convinced that miracles are real.
Francis Collins, the director of the US National Human Genome Research Institute, claims there is a rational basis for a creator and that scientific discoveries bring man “closer to God”.
His book, The Language of God, to be published in September, will reopen the age-old debate about the relationship between science and faith. “One of the great tragedies of our time is this impression that has been created that science and religion have to be at war,” said Collins, 56.

Heh.. the ironoic part is 'smart people' get to a point where they acknowledge that the knowledge they have accumliated to even realize how things works, cannot be an accident.

Collins has been a professing Christian for as long as I've known of him; he's never made any secret of it. He mentions it in this 1998 interview. Yet he was chosen to head the genome initiative. I guess that means what you just wrote is full of it. As usual.
I thought he was going to say the genome was G-d. Steven Hawkings has made the statement that if he could find the unified law of physics he will have found G-d, meaning that physics is the replacement for G-d."
If God created everything, then he created physics.

Errrr... really? To be a scientist, you need to find some question you don't already have an answer for, and then experiments and reason your way to the facts. I was kinda under the impression that God already knew all the answers. God turning out to be a scientist means that God isn't omniscient.
Some scientists sought nothing less than the total annihilation of religious faith in the wake of Darwinism and Newtonian physics. They not only failed, they failed utterly. Never has religious faith been more fully and powerfully informed by the findings of science than it is today.

Such vitriol. Your retort does not refute his point. Simply because one man speaks out does not mean that all have spoken out. Your response is also a self-refutation. The tone of your remark is WHY others do not speak out. Your bitterness and contempt is palpable.
