Life long republican - Drive by troll
Posted on 04/30/2006 7:25:29 AM PDT by Sara F
All my life, I believed in Republican values -- individual responsibility and limited government. Then it happened; I found myself with a small child, unemployed and disabled. I turned to my church, and after years of regular tithes, suddenly I just wasn't their problem. My Republican friends? I was now a pariah to them.
My only relief was to turn to government assistance for housing, food, and other needs and I was able to survive with dignity.
So chalk me up as one who no longer drinks the GOP koolaid.

Dear Sara,
I am deeply sorry for your troubles but I'm having a hard time believing you. I worked for years at a family homeless shelter on the weekends (and lots of times during the week) feeding and housing people who had fallen on hard times. We also renovated housing we bought for families to live in.
Our biggest supporters were the CHURCHS and volunteer CHURCH groups. The most hardcore liberal, DNC, marxist, power-to-the-people dude I knew would NEVER volunteer to help these people no matter how many times I asked him.
Many of the single women with children we cared for had NEVER had a job, didn't know who their children's daddies were and had always been taken care of by the government. One of our requirements was that before we moved them into one of our homes they had to get a job.
So I'm just having a hard time believing your church wouldn't help you but who knows.

everyone thinks assistance should be available for those who really need it Really? Count me as one who thinks the Federal Government has absolutely no legal authority to take money from me and give it to someone else, except if that someone else is providing goods and/or services to the government.
As for local governments, I think it should be entirely up to the givers to decide. Takers should not be allowed to vote.

PS I contibuted to Rush's Leukemia Society Appeal on Friday as I do each year. I'm not opposed to charity. I just do not believe that it is up to others to tell me how much of my money I should contribute to avoid prison.

That will show them.

Isn't there some kind of public assistance available for tomato plants?
Goodness knows there's public assistance available for darn near everything else.

Conservatives are compassionate and donate from their own funds. Liberals are compassionate too and they donate from the funds they confiscate from conservatives.

Back during election 2004 I would admit that during the Bush years, I had my single worst year financially speaking ever.
The Kerry supporters in my life were sympathetic and agreeable. Actually, almost giddy.
I then confessed that year was followed by my two best years financially ever. By far. The funny thing is that the same people seemed to be annoyed at the news.
"Thanks for the support, guys." :-)

So basically you made this story up, right?
Next week you can sign up as a soldier from Iraq who got screwed by the military after you became disabled in battle, returned home and are now living out of your car and was eating out of dumpsters until a demmie helped you out.
