Just Breaking!!!! Supreme Court Upholds "Colleges who accept Federal Funds must allow Military Recruiters"
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
"I wonder how San Francisco will circumvent this problem? SFSU would not be allowed recruiters per city law."
FED trumps State and Local when there is a conflict.
His honor better save some of that "just found money" he and the sups want to spend if he wants to test it.
At the SC they hear arguments but don't rule immediately. There are a bunch of cases lined up (this one is from December I believe) also pending votes that Alito hadn't heard.
"This case does not require us to determine when a con dition placed on university funding... becomes an unconstitutional condition. It is clear that a funding condition cannot be unconstitutional if it could be constitutionally imposed directly... the First Amendment would not prevent Congress from directly imposing the Solomon Amendment's access requirement, "
Rummage around for "Ginsburg" and you'll find threads of reports that she dozed off during arguments about the TX redistricting case.
That drawing is amazing.
Well, maybe with two more conservatives on the bench that they know will UPHOLD THE LAW the rest of the dissenters have decided they better do the same.
Probably not. The big universities that do a lot of R&D will still keep their federal funds. THe sceinces and engineering bring in the biggest chuck of federal funds in the form of research grants. Most grad students recieve a stipend for their research work. That stipend is funded by federal grants. Professors doing research spend an inordinate amount of time writing grant proposals. If they get cut of over the don't-ask don't tell policy, there will be a firestorm from the faculty. The science and engineering departments aren't the liberal socialist paradises like the liberal arts are. Plus, these professors will stand up and fight their administrations if their livelihoods are put at risk.

Does this mean that high schools, including the Portland, Oregon school district, have to stop banning recruiters on campus as well?
Common sense prevails again. We need a lot more.
YES!!!
Perhaps Grove City College, Grove City, PA.
How about, if you allow any employment recruiters on campus, you cannot discriminate against the military?
"ginsber went for this?"
Well, she was probably sleeping and someone held up her hand for this vote.
We need GWB to have another pick for SCJ. It will unite us all in the party and make the RATS implode. I don't know when the day will come but it will be SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
Air Force ROTC was present on CMU when my son was there too. Only Army had been removed. He had to go to University of Pittsburgh for his ROTC classes. No hardship at all, just strange.
Don't celebrate just yet. The ALCU has just announced that they will appeal this ruling to the UN.
She did go for it, surprise of surprises. It was 8-0 with Alito not voting.
Excellent news and long overdue.
Yale (along with hundreds of other anti-American universities) must be agonizing over this ruling.
