A detachment of 300 Arkansas National Guard troops landed in anarchic New Orleans on Thursday, with the authorization to shoot and kill "hoodlums" Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco said. "Three hundred of the Arkansas National Guard have landed in the city of New Orleans," said Blanco.
"These troops are fresh back from Iraq, well trained, experienced, battle tested and under my orders to restore order in the streets," Blanco said.
"They have M-16s and they are locked and loaded.
"These troops know how to shoot and kill and they are more than willing to do so if necessary and I expect they will," said Blanco.

in the end, it will be her and Mayor Nagin who will have the blame pinned on them for the open door given to the thugs. They are both safe. The press will blame the President. They will escape all recriminations for their blatant incompetence.

That's what I heard, too. I really hope this article is correct, but many are questioning the source.

The source seems suspect IC North Africa and AFP? Plus, it sound more like a Muslims fantasy of how Governor Blanco speaks that What I have heard of her.
Not questioning your source HAL but wondering about your source's source. If you can figure out what I mean.

Absent the headline that appeared to misinterpret things, the raw text of the story doesn't appear all that fantastic.

I just hope these guys aren't hung out to dry when they shoot someone who turns out to be someone's dad, son, brother, etc, who was "just trying to get something for his family to eat". I can hear it now. These guardsmen won't have a military mindset backing them. They'll have a bleeding heart liberal looking for poll numbers.
I pray for them. Somehow, I think they would rather be doing this in Iraq for a whole number of reasons.

Even if it is true to little to late
Shoot to kill I have never hear that as ROE
Now if they are weapons free on military aged males that would be more believable

No way, even Hailey Barbour when interviewed wouldn't say "shoot to kill" his response was "ruthless" enforcement. Nobody in charge is going to say "shoot to kill" especially Mother Blanco.
Yes there are 300 Arkansas NG there now, that part is true.

What comes to my mind is Lawton Childs (sp) former governor of Florida and hurricane Andrew. He took his own sweet time in calling in for Federal assistance and those people suffered dearly as a result.
